Job Description
Position Description:


The role of the EHS Coordinator is to provide on-site EHS support to the MSR-FSR Hillsboro Critical Component Solutions Operations facility to ensure protection of its workforce and maintain EHS compliance through cooperative relationships. Operations involve the use of hazardous chemicals, so an aptitude for chemical safety is important. This role is a 1-deep position supporting a single facility with less than 50 people, augmented by team collaboration with additional EHS duties and supported by ongoing collaboration with the rest of the EHS Team in the US and periodic visits from the Global EHS Director. The role works closely with the Quality Department using integrated ISO Management System.


Essential Job Functions


Coordinate compliance of OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to MSR-FSR’s operations.


The job functions listed below are required to be successful in this role. However, some of these requirements may be acquired within the first few months of hiring through targeted training programs and mentoring.


  • Provide post-audit recommendations on actions to address deficiencies.
  • Perform/participate in spot inspections, Job Hazard Assessments, and process reviews to ensure EHS compliance.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and provide training, fit testing, and medical surveillance documents for the respirator program.
  • Works with Operations to ensure proper profiling and packaging of hazardous waste in accordance with EPA/DOT/State regulations.
  • Lead Local Safety Committee and facilitate meetings.
  • Conduct / assist in incident investigations.
  • Respond to operation’s requests for EH&S assistance (e.g., answers to questions, EH&S technical and regulatory clarifications, creation of EH&S plans and forms, EH&S evaluation of workplace designs, and product EH&S evaluations).
  • Prepare and provide workforce training presentations in small groups.
  • Complete routine floor audits to determine compliance/conformance status with regulatory/company requirements, and seek opportunities to improve EH&S performance, elevating any concerns to management.
  • Participate in the preparation, maintenance, and dissemination of written documentation providing guidance to EH&S compliance and improvement efforts (e.g., policies, manuals, plans and programs, procedures and guidelines, forms, and training programs).

Ability to effectively communicate and explain EHS requirements to others and respond to questions from workers, managers, and clients.


As noted above, requirements listed below are essential to be successful in this role, although some skills may be acquired within the first few months of hiring through targeted training programs and mentoring.


  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and e-mail.
  • Must be able to safely access and traverse indoor and outdoor obstacles for site inspections, including climbing ladders, walking on stairs, catwalks, and other types of uneven surfaces where activity inspections are needed.
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 35 pounds, on a sporadic basis.
  • Knowledge of regulations related to air emissions, hazardous waste, and sewer discharges.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to write reports to include objective interpretation of facts and circumstances, identify causal factors, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ability to research, interpret and understand federal, state, local and client EHS requirements, as well as industry best practices and consensus standards such as ANSI and ISO standards.
  • Knowledge of safe handling practices of chemicals and ability to handle potentially hazardous substances utilizing proper procedures.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in English through verbal and written documentation, and provide influential training and guidance.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including protective eye wear, hard hat, lab coat, gloves, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, and respirators.


Desired, not mandatory:


Broad knowledge and experience in EH&S compliance requirements and industry best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the company management of all levels and participate in Quality initiatives.

  • Working knowledge of consensus standards such as ANSI Z-10, ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001, and/or OSHA VPP Best Practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff members in relation to EH&S.
  • Individual who is a self-starter and able to work independently.


Education And Experience


Associate’s Degree or equivalent technical training in an EHS related field, and/or 2-5 years’ progressive experience in EHS positions.


  • Preferred additional experience in inspections/auditing, training, hazardous waste management.
  • Preferred EHS certifications and/or a commitment towards continuous professional development in the EHS field.
