Position Summary
We have an excellent opportunity for a Junior Android Software Engineer to help deliver a high-quality product that meets our clients’ needs and expectations. This role reports to the Software Engineering Manager and will work with our mobile applications team and use many of the latest mobile technologies including Android Studio, Google Firebase, Google Maps, Kotlin, and Jetpack Compose. This position is a Phoenix‐based hybrid position.
What We Want You to Do
- Develop features for Android platform apps.
- Collaborate with the rest of the development team to ensure applications align with the organization’s goals, as well as customer needs.
- Edit, review, submit, build, and evaluate Android app source code Initiating and integrating device cameras in Android apps.
- Oversee the performance of applications to ensure they’re always running properly.
- Perform technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems.
- Build and maintain native Android mobile applications.
- Create and execute designs for software components within a larger project.
- Collaborate and add value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions.
- Carry out regular security and performance checks.
- Implement unit, UI, and integration tests using Android testing frameworks and libraries.
- Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques.
- Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes.
- Utilize software development tools and Instruments to develop, test, debug, and deploy quality software.
Who You Are
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or another relevant engineering/technical field AND a minimum of 1-year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Excellent time management.
- Deep understanding of core programming principles, including design.
- Critical and analytical thinking skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Experience with AIDLs or Android OS/System UI/Frontend experience with Android Native UI Kotlin.
- Test-Driven Development, DevOps, Agile ScrumBan.
- Desire to continue professional growth through training and education.
- Cloud message APIs and push notifications.
- Proven experience (professional or otherwise) as an application developer.
- Ability to program in at least one programming language (ex: JavaScript or Python).
- Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks.
- At least 1-year developing applications in a work environment; outside of school and internship projects.
- Android SDK.
- Experience with Kotlin, Java and Android Studio.
- RESTful APIs and how to connect Android applications to back-end services.
- Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.
It Would Be Great If You Also Have
- Implementing and using Android storage libraries like Room.
- Released apps through Google Play Store.
- Building UIs with Jetpack Compose.
- Using and implementing Android DI libraries like Dagger and Hilt.
- Using and building Android CI/CD pipelines.
- Implementing and using TCP Sockets in Android applications.
- Kotlin coroutines and RxJava.
