SALARY: The salary range for this position is $41,987.71 to $63,592.31 for Schedule A, and $41,987.71 to $56,929.40 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to August 20, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after August 20, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

Position Description


The Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren Vicinage (Vicinage 13), is seeking self-starters interested in performing a variety of clerical, administrative, and other support functions in connection with the operations of the Superior Court. Applicants to this posting may be considered for openings in the Civil, Criminal, Family, Finance, General Operations, and Probation Divisions.


Under the direction of the Court Executive 1b (Assistant Division Manager) and other supervisory personnel, the selected applicants will serve as support staff for one of the above Divisions.


Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To


  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Answering questions posed by judges, the public, clients, customers, complainants, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Processing postal verifications (updated in NJKiDS).
  • Verifying records, documents and pleadings for accuracy, completeness and conformity with court rules and other regulations and requirements.
  • Compiling and entering data into computer systems; entering appropriate case notes into computer systems; correcting errors in data, accounts, or documents as needed.
  • Performing court clerking duties including, but not limited to operating digital recording systems accurately; maintaining accurate and detailed records and logs of in-court activities; marking exhibits; administering oaths to witnesses; completing other court-related paperwork.
  • Providing information and explaining Judiciary policies and procedures to court users.
  • Working on the processing and disbursement of court fees, fines, bail, restitution and child support payments; preparing deposits and reconciling accounts.
  • Issuing writs, warrants and other legal documents into computer systems. Processing warrant paperwork as per established division protocols.
  • Troubleshooting office equipment malfunctions as needed.
  • Scheduling and coordinating conferences, hearings, trials, and other court events.
  • Assisting customers at the payment window by conforming legal documents, calculating fees and costs and entering financial data.
  • Composing non-routine correspondence.
  • Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers in person, by telephone, and via written communication.


REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.


Qualifications


Experience Requirement:One year of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.


Testing: Applicants selected to interview must pass an appointing authority administered examination to demonstrate keyboarding skills at the Judiciary standard of at least 25 words per minute, or must have otherwise demonstrated this competency as detailed below.


Skills


The appointing authority administered examination is waived for the following applicants who have been deemed to possess keyboarding skills at the Judiciary standard of 25 words per minute


  • Judiciary staff that have permanent status in a career service title requiring a keyboarding, typing or stenography test.
  • Judiciary staff in unclassified titles requiring a keyboarding, typing or stenography test.
  • All applicants who possess a current typing proficiency certification issued by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission or the New Jersey Judiciary.


BICAT Testing: Candidates selected to serve in a bilingual variant title must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) performance examination or provide proof of having established bilingual proficiency with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.


Supplemental Information


Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 25 to 30 pounds.


Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.


Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.


Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.


Residency Law: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
