BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The M ZC TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION OPERATIONS Department of the P T&D OPERATIONS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has Journeyman Lineman positions to fill on Maui. (Role: Non-Exempt)


JOB FUNCTION:

Installs, maintains, and operates overhead transmission and distribution lines, substations, substation equipment of all voltages up to 138kV. Installs, maintains, and operates non-leaded cable installations of all voltages up to 69kV (distribution voltage for Oahu only).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • May assist Crew Foreman in conducting and documenting daily tailboards and/or anytime the job changes.
  • Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on any or all the above operations.
  • May be required to be transported by helicopter.
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
  • Drives and operates T&D vehicles and equipment that requires a Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Works on energized primary Transmission and Distribution equipment up to an operating voltage of 69kV using protective equipment as required.
  • Applies Company’s safety and construction standards, departmental work standards, and other applicable rules and procedures.
  • Performs construction and maintenance work on overhead and non-lead underground transmission and distribution lines.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties of all lower classifications in the LOP as required.
  • May assist the Crew Foreman in the completion of job and inspection reports and other paperwork including electronic data input as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Construction & Skilled Trades Selection System (CAST) and the Berger Aptitude for Programming Test (BAPT).
  • Must be able to climb and perform work on communication towers and poles.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.

Notes: Notes: 1) Employees who have taken and passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) do not need to take the CAST.

2) Employees hired before July 1, 1992 do not need to take the BAPT.

  • May be required to be transported by helicopter.
  • Must be able to obtain a State of Hawaii commercial driver's license (CDL) within 36 months. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Graduate of Lineman Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish different colors and color hues required.
  • Must have a current driver’s license.
  • Must pass Job Sample Test
