It Student Position – Fall 2023 - Seal

GTRI’s Research Technology Group (RTG) is looking for a student to assist the IT team. The student needs to be moderately experienced in IT in order to assist with general troubleshooting relative to desktop / laptop support; including workstations, connectivity issues, peripheral equipment and the installation of hardware and operating software for all supported systems. Support includes assisting users in the operation of computer systems as well as the installation, maintenance and upgrading of workstations. Support also includes the identification and resolution of problems with many different hardware platforms and software applications. This position would also assist in the evaluation of new applications and equipment and the implementation and testing of prototypes.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Student Assistant

• Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer & Software Engineering, Business, Education, or Engineering.
• 3.0 or higher GPA

Preferred Qualifications

• Support a wide variety of applications and hardware
• Detail-oriented
• Diagnose and resolve intermediate technical problems associated with computer hardware and software
• Analyze/solve desktop computer issues related to networking, hardware, software, and printing
• Solve help desk tickets on a daily basis
• The ability to work independently given tasks and departmental policies and guidelines
• Have excellent written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Web browsers, MS Access, and Excel spreadsheets
• Good customer service skills and communication (written and verbal)
• May eventually assist with custom application programs. Design, code, test, and debug custom or specialty application programs
• Provide user application assistance; install new computer equipment, maintain existing hardware

15–20 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
Clearance Type Required
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
