Minimum Requirements & Essential Functions


IT Specialist III – Systems Administrator is responsible for creating advanced analytical, technical and administrative work products in information on technology. IT Specialist III – Systems Administrator is expected to identify and resolve moderately complex work problems related to computer systems/servers, network data, and application administration. Work is performed under direction of upper-level classifications with extensive latitude for individual and team initiative. #oj


Minimum Requirements


  • Ability to protect computer systems/servers and network data by ensuring that the most appropriate anti-virus software and security patches are applied.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Must have knowledge of the following areas: application administration (e.g., CAD, RMS, Lawson, SharePoint, OnBase, etc.); Active Directory; VMware, or Hyper-V administration; Storage administration; networking concepts (FTP, Telnet, TCP/IP, LAN, VLAN, WAN); Windows server administration.
  • Ability to develop and maintain corporate server software patching policy; plan and execute regular patch applications to keep all managed servers up to date with software updates; plan and communicate patching events; execute within allocated time with very minimal unplanned down-time.
  • Ability to provide cost-effective strategic long-range technical solutions for Windows servers, storage arrays, and computer backup systems; troubleshoot and provide both Tier-1 and Tier-2 technical support in these areas.
  • Must also have ability to use judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to provide recommendations on technologies used by the agency.
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • Ability to identify, resolve and complete complex tasks and work assignments based on defined service levels, in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving an agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
  • Depending on assignment, may be required to be FCIC/NCIC certified within one (1) year of accepting position.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to perform data backup and restoration; collaborate with team members to create, follow, and test a disaster recovery plan.
  • Ability to develop and support a moderately complex agency technology service.
  • Ability to interact with vendors to manage repairs and pro-active fixes; remain well-informed of current technologies for future improvements.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • Must have the ability to use creative and original thinking.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management and other employees.
  • Must have advanced computer skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from citizens, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to meet with stakeholders to identify business objectives and requirements and translate them into an acceptable technology solution that is cost effective and consistent with agency policy.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to develop and recommend technical solutions for enterprise physical and virtual server configurations and functionality; develop complex technical solutions with other IT Specialists.
  • Ability to mentor team members on best practices within their area of expertise.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and financial reports.
  • Ability to focus and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to be the application administrator for various agency systems (e.g., CAD, RMS, Lawson, SharePoint, OnBase, etc.).
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND three (3) years of general IT experience. OR a Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field AND two (2) years of general IT experience.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Preferred candidates will have completed one training course towards Microsoft Certified Systems Administration (MCSA) and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE).
  • Preferred candidates will also have advanced skills in one or more of the following: development tools, server administration tools, or network security administration tools.
  • At least one of the following certifications is preferred: Server + Certification; VMWARE Certified Professional (VCP).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and also sit and work on the computer for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or use hands to handle or feel. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may have to assist someone lifting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


Work is generally performed in a standard office setting. The employee must be able to work in remote locations within Orange County and possibly outside of Orange County. The employee will be working with computer related equipment and may occasionally be exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Depending on assignment, may be required to occasionally work evenings and/or weekends. The employee is required to support the agency’s emergency operations during a critical incident and may be recalled. The employee may also be assigned to a technical team in order to support the agency during a critical incident.
