Job Description

Isuroon was founded in 2010 to address unmet health care needs of Somali women, taking its name from a Somali word that means “a woman who cares for herself.” Since then, we have expanded programming to address Somali families’ economic, health, and social needs. Isuroon has earned a trusted place in the community because of its cultural insight and collaborative approach to combatting gender inequality and the poverty, illness, and social isolation. Isuroon is known as a fierce advocate for racial, gender and economic equality. Our youth programs encompass middle and high school students and in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic we expanded them to include digital literacy, youth mentorship, and career development programs. Pandemics showed us how much more of support Somali youth need, from technology to basic needs to advanced writing and career skills. The VISTA project will examine our youth programs and propose processes and systems to manage and expand the programs. You will be working with a growing team of people committed to serving their communities; 85% of our staff are Somali or East African and come from the communities we serve. We are committed to staff growth and development and offer regular opportunities for training to all staff, including VISTAs. Many of our staff are young adults, and we actively encourage youth and young adult leadership in all of our programs. Someone who is self-motivated, passionate about community service, and dedicated to pursuing their own growth and development would be good fit for this position. Benefits: In addition to your regular VISTA stipend, Isuroon offers additional benefits including but not limited to the following: -Rental/Housing stipend -Gas stipend for travel -Educational stipend -Supplementary stipend (if housing, gas, and education do not apply to applicant) Benefits are provided dependent on applicant needs and funding availability.


Member Duties : The VISTA will work on a number of levels to increase the sustainability and cohesiveness of our youth programs. In collaboration with the staff the VISTA will 1) co-create tools and systems for program management and outcome- and progress-tracking for youth programs 2) identify opportunities and strategies for staff growth and development, and 3) develop partnerships with local and national youth programs. You will be working closely with both youth programs and development staff and use programs like Microsoft Excel, Salesforce, and GrantsHub to interact with program data. Training for these programs will be provided. Required • Strong digital literacy and computer skills • Proficiency in written and spoken English • Communication skills across different cultures and languages • Willingness to learn • Self-motivated Preferred • Somali speaker • Lived experience in immigrant, refugee, and/or BIPOC communities • Aptitude and/or experience working with data
