Practice Description
Greenberg Traurig's Patent Prosecution Group devises IP protection strategies and manages domestic and international patent portfolios for companies and organizations ranging in size from modest to very large. With approximately 100 registered patent attorneys having a variety of technical backgrounds and advanced degrees, our team prosecutes patent applications in virtually every area of science. We’re skilled in guiding clients through the application process – from prior art searches to patent issuance – and we’re experienced in proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). By challenging pending applications and issued patents filed by competitors, we help clients preserve market share and freedom to operate. Our team develops and implements commercialization, cross-licensing, and defensive positioning plans to meet our clients’ business objectives. Capitalizing on our firm’s global reach and network of foreign associates, we guide clients in filing patents in multiple countries and help create value through patent strategies that advance our clients’ business goals.

Greenberg Traurig is seeking a junior to mid-level patent associate to join its Intellectual Property group. Please note candidates may sit in any GT office. We are looking for someone who is hard-working, personable and dedicated to providing clients with top-notch legal services. This position can be resident in various office locations; candidates should specify office location preference in application. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of relevant experience in the life sciences area. Experience includes, but is not limited to, evaluating patent portfolios, performing due diligence investigations, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and patent portfolio management.
  • Candidates should be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office with a strong background in scientific fields relevant to biotechnology.
  • Candidates must be admitted to the bar in the state where they reside.
  • Candidates should possess leadership skills, be comfortable working directly with clients and work well with others.
  • Advanced degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or Immunology is desired.
  • Candidates must have excellent academic credentials and communication skills.
  • Experience in a law firm is required.
Submissions from search firms will only be accepted through our web portal; for access please contact Andy Arica.
The expected annualized base salary range for this position is $205,000 to $325,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full time employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, health insurance with an optional HSA, short term disability, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, 401K, vacation, sick time, and an employee assistance program. Additional voluntary programs include: voluntary accident insurance, voluntary life, voluntary disability, voluntary long term care, voluntary critical illness and cancer insurance and pet insurance. In support of our unwavering dedication to putting diversity, equity, and inclusion into action, GT participates in the Mansfield Rule Certification Program. This Program, which is administered by The Diversity Lab, aims to increase diverse representation in the legal industry. In July 2020, we achieved Mansfield Rule 3.0 Certification. A year later, in 2021, we achieved Mansfield 4.0 Certification Plus, meaning we went beyond the requirements of the original Mansfield program. Most recently, in 2022, GT gained Mansfield Rule 5.0 Certification Plus – again achieving the highest level of certification a law firm can obtain. GT is currently participating in the Mansfield Rule 6.0 Certification Program.
