Reports To: Longwall’s Senior Investment Partners
Summary:
Longwall Investment Partners/Longwall Family Office advises on custom investment portfolios for wealthy families, which includes the functions of portfolio structuring, direct company investments, and investments in third-party fund managers.
The Longwall Family Office is looking for an experienced and entrepreneurially-minded Investment Analyst to join the team. This position ideally requires a combination of skills and experience, namely: Online research capabilities, business modeling, valuation analysis, evaluation of alternative investments and funds, and customized problem-solving.
The Investment Analyst position is therefore distinctively broad in its scope, given the breadth of coverage of the firm’s mandates. The position requires a person looking for an entrepreneurial and flat organizational setting, in which they will be given the opportunity to develop advanced investment acumen, become familiar with a wide variety of asset classes and forms of investment., and will be ceded the room to hone their research and problem-solving capabilities.
These responsibilities will all fall under the tutelage of portfolio managers and Partners who teach finance at the Harvard Business School, have run large state pension plan investment portfolios, have invested for Goldman Sachs, and have been problem-solving analysts earlier in their careers in organizations like Sanford C. Bernstein and McKinsey and Company. This is a job position for someone who has likely been in a corporate or professional setting for a number of years, and has developed core skills, but now wants to work in the investment business directly, and wants to work in a problem-solving team setting with a longer term potential to become an owner in the firm.
Main responsibilities include:
- Due diligence, research, and analysis of direct company investments
- Tracking of client portfolio performance and preparation of complex and detailed performance reports
- Problem-solving with the portfolio managers of the firm, on numerous client-related projects that arise in the course of any given month
- Assistance with special investment projects e.g. Energy transition opportunities, China markets, sector ETFs, FAANG stocks
- Co-evaluation of third-party investment funds
Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field
- Strong understanding of financial analysis and reporting
- Master’s degree or CFA is preferred but not required
- 5+ years of experience in consulting, investment banking, private equity, sell-side or buy-side research, or hedge funds
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
