Description

SALARY:
The salary range for this position is $42,818.67 to $81,042.15 for Schedule A, and $42,818.67 to $72,550.94 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to August 20, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after August 20, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

The Mercer Vicinage is seeking an individual with strong customer service, self-management, interpersonal and oral communication skills to work in the Probation-Child Support. Under the general direction of the Court Executive 1B (Assistant Division Manager) and other supervisory personnel, the selected individual will monitor a caseload of approximately 700 active child support cases. The selected candidate will apply their strong attention to detail and technology application skills to prioritize cases and resolve case issues that deal with the collection and disbursement of court ordered child support, spousal support and alimony, terminations and emancipations, credits and income withholdings.

WHAT IS PROVISIONAL?

This position is “Provisional”. At a future date, the selected candidate will need to file for a Civil Service Exam and be reachable on the resulting eligible list in order to gain permanency. While there is currently no information on when this test will be announced, please note that Civil Service test announcements can be found on the NJ Civil Service Commission website at www.state.nj.us/csc.

REMOTE WORK
: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Example of Duties

  • Generate appropriate and correct financial notes to both the local Finance Division and State Disbursement Unit
  • Collect court-ordered payments
  • Perform other related duties
  • Advise judges on case issues
  • Respond to client inquiries and walk-in customers who may have difficult and challenging issues
  • Confer with the Family Division and Welfare staff to resolve complicated issues
  • Analyze cases in accordance with existing laws, regulations or professional practices
  • Refer cases for enforcement actions

Qualifications

Two years of paraprofessional experience in casework involving the collection of facts, securing and verifying socioeconomic data, obtaining information by observing conditions, examining records, interviewing individuals, and/or preparing investigative reports of findings.
Substitution: Applicants may substitute semester hour credits from an accredited college or university for the required experience on a year-for-year basis with 30 semester hour credits being equal to one year of experience.
This position is in the classified (career) service. Since an open competitive certification for this location is currently unavailable, applicants selected from this recruitment will be appointed provisionally at this time. Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
