JOB SUMMARY: Provide interpreting and support services to potential candidates, current Team Members, and guests that use American Sign Language as a means of communication.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interprets work related activities and meetings for our Deaf Team Members, including but not limited to Spot Talk Meetings, Department Meetings, Counselings, and/or Reviews.
- Interprets and assists Team Members with Back of House Resources concerning their needs with departments such as but not limited to the Benefits Department, Payroll Department, Staffing Department, Health Services Department, TeamCare Department and Team Member Services.
- Interprets various live action shows inside Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure where we offer our American Sign Language Interpreting Services for our guests.
- Interprets the interview process for potential candidates, including but not limited to First Interviews, Second Interviews, New Hire Orientations, and/or On-The-Job Trainings.
- Maintains contact with the Operational Safety and ADA Services Supervisor to communicate comments, concerns, or potential issues discussed with Team Members and/or guests that directly impact the services to those involved.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
SCOPE: Facilitate communication between hearing individuals and Deaf or hard-of-hearing. The interpreter must understand the cultures in which they work and apply their professional knowledge to promote effective cross-cultural communication. Knowledge and competence in Performing Arts/Theatrical Interpreting is essential, in conjunction with basic Hospitality and Management skills.
EDUCATION:
- High school degree or GED is required.
- Associate’s degree (AA) is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred two plus years of experience in service the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Community;
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Required: RID Active Membership, FRID Active Membership
- Required: RID Certification
