Position Details
Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
SIP in partnership with the National Park Service are seeking an AmeriCorps members who will support visitor services projects at Padre Island National Seashore. The AmeriCorps member will help develop museum and visitor center exhibits, create and produce print materials, interpret the Park’s cultural and naturals resources through programming, develop lessons plans meeting local and national curriculum standards, present distance learning programming, and support other visitor services tasks.
Position Responsibilities Will Include
Interpretation and education tasks, such as the development of museum and/or visitor center exhibits; creation and production of written and/or print materials, such as site bulletins and website content; drafting of social media posts; interpreting the park’s cultural and natural resources for visitors through informal contacts and formal programming; development of lesson plans and other educational materials that meet Texas and national curriculum standards; creation and production of virtual programming; presentation of distance-learning and/or in-classroom education programs; and a variety of related visitor services tasks.
The selected applicant will also provide occasional assistance to cultural and natural resource interns with various tasks, including documentation and removal of marine debris, documentation and treatment of invasive vegetation, wildlife and vegetation surveys, water quality measurements, and habitat restoration.
Minimum Requirements

• Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check (must be at least 21 year old or have had a license for 3 years)
• At least 60 credit hours of undergraduate education, with 24 credit hours focusing on communication, education, or resource management

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, education, or resource management field
• Fluency in Spanish
• One year of experience in education or interpretation
