Job Description
Salary Range: $13.65 - $21.26 Hourly


Job Summary


Intern I - Recreation is an integral part of the Recreation Division with the City of Greeley. The internship is a valuable opportunity for the Intern to gain significant real-world experience that will aid them in their transition from student to recreation professional. Interns will have the opportunity to be assigned to an area of interest within the Recreation Division which may include:


  • Aquatics
  • Rodarte Community Center
  • Family Funplex
  • Greeley Recreation/Fitness
  • Ice Haus
  • Sports/AIR
  • Active Adult Center
  • Recreation Administration/Marketing

Experience, Knowledge, Skills


  • Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire required
  • Experience and knowledge of computer operations and use of software packages including Microsoft Office applications desired
  • Spanish/English bilingual skills desired
  • Upperclassman status at a four-year university with a focus in recreation, hospitality, sports science, marketing or other related field of study.


Essential Functions


Depending on Internship Focus:


Program Management


  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors, instructors and other external groups.
  • Create, implement, and manage a variety of recreation programs for both youth and adult populations.
  • Track inventory and order supplies and equipment for programs.
  • Ensure marketing materials, website, and social media sites are updated with accurate information.
  • Develop program rosters, schedules, and coordinate facility use for events and competitions.


Facility Operations


  • Follow and assist in the enforcement of risk management and emergency response training.
  • Learn and use recreation management software, RecTrac, for entry desk operations including membership sales, program registration, facility rentals, and point of sale services.
  • Aid patrons in registrations for activities, programs, and events.
  • Maintain and update family and organization accounts.
  • Process and assist with promoting membership sales at the Ice Haus.
  • Assist with ensuring marketing materials, website, and social media sites are updated with accurate information.
  • Learn and use Connect to Concepts for operations documentation.


Personnel & Fiscal Management


  • Utilize scheduling software and monitor employee hours in accordance with budget.
  • Develop and mentor volunteers and staff to ensure quality instruction and leadership.
  • Assist in the development of program budgets and ensure expenses align with approved budget.
  • Monitor and report on budgets and ensure cost recovery goals are being met.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, mentor and evaluate volunteers and part-time staff.
  • Develop reports and performance measures in support of Department and Division fiscal goals.
  • Conduct trainings for staff and volunteers on a regular basis related to a variety of topics.


Marketing


  • Develop marketing plans for specific operation areas.
  • Develop and conduct surveys and assessments of customers and community.
  • Produce print, social, and web materials.
  • Coordinate with the Communications and Engagement department to develop marketing materials that adhere to City's design standards.


Work Environment And Physical Requirements


  • Flexibility to work early mornings, weekdays, nights, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Manual dexterity enough to complete daily work such as operate computer keyboards, drive and operate motor vehicles, and operate other office equipment, and complete paperwork.
  • Frequent interruptions.
  • Vision to perform physical activities, read computer keyboards, reference books, and other written documents.
  • Work is performed in an open office environment with heavy noise levels, at times.
  • Frequent and heavy contact with the public and City employees in person and by telephone.
  • Strength and stamina enough to walk, stand, stretch, bend, lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
