Job Information

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Head of Interlibrary Loan Borrowing, transmits outgoing interlibrary loan requests via ILLiad, OCLC WorldShare ILL, Relais, and DOCLINE. Performs duties of Library Assistant and Library Clerk positions. Performs work in accordance with Library standards and procedures.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in documenting procedures and recommending changes in procedures and processes as necessary, participates in training sessions related to job duties as needed and assisting with ILL Shipping duties as needed.
  • Oversees student staff and work: introduce new employees to Library policies, procedures, programs, and equipment and Directs and trains student employees in a range of library tasks, including the proper processing of borrowed materials for client use.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Processes client requests using ILLiad, ReShare, and Folio systems by verifying citations in many languages using a wide variety of sources, searching online catalogs and databases for materials held in our collections and sending requests to lending libraries via ILLiad.
  • Processes incoming and returning books, micro-formats, media, and other loans and posts scanned documents to clients’ ILLiad accounts.
  • Interacts directly with international libraries and requests hard-to-find materials via ALA email and international webforms.
  • Performs database maintenance by correcting errors in interlibrary loan records, and manually updating interlibrary loan records as necessary.
  • Shares departmental customer service duties with Processing Assistant counterpart, including assisting clients with the placing of Interlibrary Loan requests and answering policy and procedure questions.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience, or Certifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
  • Related library experience, or an equivalent combination of position-related education and experience, required.
  • Previous work experience performing bibliographic searches, including experience with Boolean and other advanced search techniques, preferred.
  • Previous patron service experience in a high-volume library or related setting required.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • Work experience and demonstrated strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel, required.
  • Previous work experience with ILL software highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of library procedures preferred.
  • Reading knowledge of at least one (1) non-English language highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard reference sources preferred.
  • Strong keyboard skills required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to carry or lift loads up to 30 lbs., push and pull loaded book trucks.
  • Ability to use computers extensively for (4) hours or more.
  • Ability to make repetitive wrist, hand, and/or finger movements.
Pay Range:
  • $18.02 - $21.03 per hour
