Job Description
Summary You will serve as the Senior Team Lead for the Computational Structural Mechanics (CSM) Team of the AIRFRAME TECHNOLOGY BRANCH in the STRUCTURES DIVISION, AIR VEHICLE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV. This is an Interdisciplinary Position Considering the following Series: 0830 (MECHANICAL ENGINEER) 0861 (AEROSPACE ENGINEER) Responsibilities You will be responsible for the conception, promotion, planning, controlling and directing all activities and execution of team projects to improve and sustain the structural integrity of aircraft, air-vehicle systems and air-vehicle support systems. You will conduct Research and Development programs to build the Computational Structural Mechanics (CSM) capability of the Structures Division locally and nationally. You will maintain a mastery of the load, stress, dynamic response, fracture and fatigue analysis disciplines. Serve as the lead structural analyst of the Structures Division. You will manage the technical and business base of the CSM team. You will manage the day-to-day operation of the Structural Analysis Laboratory (SAL), maintain and upgrade RDTE hardware and software, and ensure full IT-certified compliance. You will serve as a national Division level consultant in all matters concerning structural analysis, and participate in acquisition and in-service programs requiring analysis expertise. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12/13 grade level or DP-04 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of Qualifying Specialized Experience: 1) Utilizing expertise in structural modeling & simulation including computational structural methods and techniques for solid mechanics & dynamics; 2) Demonstrating ability to conduct research and development of advanced technology including, but not limited to, hypersonic, digital engineering, and model-based system engineering; 3) Demonstrating ability to lead and coordinate an interdisciplinary technical team; 4) Preparing technical proposals and pursue internal & external funding. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
