The primary work schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES
- Investigates timely complaints of misapplication and/or fraudulence and initiates corrective action when necessary.
- Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Maintains records and prepares routine reports.
- Performs inspections of buildings and structures under construction and demolition including, but not limited to, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and other systems to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and laws.
- Reviews building plans and discusses possible problem areas with builder, owners, and designers.
- Leads and/or attends staff conferences, professional meetings, and other events.
- Demonstrates a combination of postsecondary education in the field of construction, building experience which totals three (3) years, with at least one (1) year of such total being experience in construction, building code inspection, or plans review.
- Demonstrates four (4) years combined experience in the field of construction or a related field, building code inspection, or plans review corresponding to the certification category sought.
- Demonstrates a combination of technical education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals three (3) years, with at least one (1) year of such total being experience in construction, building code inspection, or plans review.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
- Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida).
- Following are additional certifications based on qualifications:
- Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) certification as a construction inspector in the areas
- Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical; and
- One-and Two-Family Dwelling
- One-and Two-Family Dwelling
- Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical; and

Must be eligible for provisional DBPR certification and must acquire standard DBPR certification within one (1) year of hire date.
Must hold one (1) DBPR standard inspector certification in either Building, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical.
Must hold two (2) DBPR standard inspector certifications in either Building, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical; or hold One-and Two-Family Dwelling Inspector
Must hold three (3) DBPR standard inspector certifications in either Building, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical, or One-and Two-Family Dwelling Inspector plus two of the others above.
- Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
- IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
- Excellent customer service skills, communication skills and strong attention to detail required.
- Must have strong organizational skills to plan, prioritize, multi-task and independently execute projects/tasks within specific deadlines while maintaining flexibility.
- Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
- IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
- IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
- Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping, fine manual manipulation, typing, operating foot controls/levers, and driving automotive equipment.
- The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, electrical hazards, unprotected heights, and extreme noise.

- Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
- The job requires frequent climbing, balancing, and occasional bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling, and reaching above shoulders.
- The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
