Job Description
The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve our systems of democracy and justice. We work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. Among our core priorities, we fight to protect voting rights, end mass incarceration, strengthen checks and balances, and preserve Constitutional protection in the fight against terrorism. Part think-tank, part advocacy group, part cutting-edge communications hub, we start with rigorous research. We craft innovative policies. And we fight for them — in Congress and the states, the courts, and in the court of public opinion.
We are seeking a talented Information Technology (IT) Analyst Reporting to the Information Technology Manager, the IT Analyst will be responsible for implementing and managing the day-to-day operation of the organization’s IT tasks and supporting our information security program. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the Brennan Center’s technology and information assets are properly supported and guarded from external and internal threats. The IT analyst will provide guidance and help make critical decisions about security risk assessment, solutions, and the organization’s ongoing evolution of its IT security program. As an IT Analyst, the candidate will possess impeccable tenacity as the main driver of the IT helpdesk and will help supervise the new junior help desk technician.
Note: Staff are currently working in the office 3 days a week, but this position will sometimes require working after hours and on weekends in order to ensure the security of the organization. This position is based at our headquarters in New York City and may require occasional travel to our Washington, DC office.
Responsibilities
Security
  • Work with external auditors to ensure compliance with security regulations and standards.
  • Work alongside the Information Security Manager on day-to-day tasks managing the information security posture of the organization.
  • Work with Brennan Center management and staff, third party security consultants, and managed service providers to assess risks, establish priorities, conduct reviews, and implement solutions.
  • Monitor external threat environment to ensure that the Brennan Center is responsive to near and far term threats.
  • Assist in performing vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Conduct staff security awareness training and partner with IT staff on training curriculum development and improvement.
  • Work with external vendors to ensure services are not interrupted or performed without errors or delays
  • Ensure that required security control initiatives are executed on schedule and in line with the Brennan Center’s Information Security objectives.
  • Respond to and resolve technical issues and cyber security threats that may impact the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of Brennan Center’s systems and affect constituents or personnel.
Helpdesk and Systems Administration
  • Supervise and complement the operations of the new Junior helpdesk technician
  • Troubleshoot networking and operating system problems.
  • Requisition hardware/software or tracking assets for the assigned unit.
  • Research and recommend innovative and possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.
  • Collect business requirements and develop functional specifications.
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Monitor and patch updates for all the organizations devices
  • Install and maintain operating systems and related software to ensure stable performance and configure and maintain technology or systems supporting an assigned business unit or functional area.
  • Manage, record and work on the day-to-day tasks related to the Company IT helpdesk.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving obstacles and/or conflicts.
  • Configure or re-engineer processes, systems, hardware, or software to meet business needs, assist with implementation, and provide post-implementation end-user support and maintenance.
  • Evaluate system specifications, input and output processes, and working parameters for hardware and software compatibility.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of network administration for Cisco, HP and Cisco Merakis
  • General knowledge of AV Systems and experience with troubleshooting Audio and Video issues in conference rooms
  • Knowledge of backup processing and administration
  • Proficiency with MAC and OS management and troubleshooting
  • At least 5 years of experience in an IT- related position
  • Experience with ShoreTel VOIP phone systems management and troubleshooting
  • Experience with IT ticketing Systems
  • Experience working with RMM (Altera, NinjaOne or comparable)
  • Experience with Printers and Copiers management
  • Experience in monitoring and analyze logs for Azure and Active Directory sign ins
  • Experience with Apple MDMs
  • Experience in project management
  • Strong knowledge of Systems Administrations for Microsoft Azure and Active Directory
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender ATP
  • Proficient with Office 365 administration and troubleshooting
  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer science, information technology, cyber security or a related field

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range assigned for this role is $78,000 - $83,000 and has been determined based on market competitiveness. Each salary in the scale is determined by the number of years of professional experience after graduation from law school of the selected candidate.
