Job Description

ChristianaCare is looking for an Infection Preventionist Nurse to work in a collaborative manner with all members of the healthcare system and community. The Infection Preventionist implements a system- wide infection prevention program aimed at supporting patient safety initiatives and provides education for staff, patients and visitors in the principles, policies and procedures related to infection prevention.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies trends, clusters, outbreaks or areas of concern and prepares action plans as appropriate.
  • Implements approved action plans, working with departmental managers; monitors results until areas of concern are resolved.
  • Performs surveillance related to infections and communicable diseases for Christiana Care.
  • Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports for specific departments, Infection Prevention and Performance Improvement Committees, and others as required
  • Receives calls as needed on weekends, nights, and holidays regarding Infection Prevention issues, i.e., patient placement, isolation precautions, equipment/environmental cleaning/disinfection. Will be on-call when assigned.

Location: ChristianaCare Newark Campus with rotation to Wilmington and Cecil campuses.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in infection prevention and knowledge of principles of epidemiology and infectious diseases preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, medical laboratory technology, or related healthcare field and a minimum of 3 years experience is required.
  • Management, supervisory and/or experience as a health care educator preferred.

Special Requirements: CBIC certification (CIC) preferred on hire. If not certified, required to secure CIC within 2 years of hire as an Infection Preventionist.
