Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Infection Preventionist 1 works under the direct supervision of the Infection Prevention Manager to implement and review the facility’s infection prevention program, to ensure existing standards and guidelines of applicable professional organizations and regulatory and governmental agencies are incorporated into the program, and serves as a resource person regarding infection prevention issues for all facility personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Participates in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare-associated infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis
  • Reports patients with communicable diseases to the appropriate health authority
  • Provides education to increase employee awareness of existence of healthcare-associated infections
  • Implements infection prevention strategies to prevent and control the transmission of infectious agents, applying epidemiologic values and evidence-based guidelines
  • Monitors compliance with national standards and regulating bodies such as JC, CDC, OSHA, and FDA through observations, audit tools and other methods
  • Participates in continuing educational activities, professional meetings and peers networking, and reviews published literature to maintain current knowledge commensurate with the latest research and scholarly knowledge pertaining to healthcare and infection and control
  • Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner
  • Partners with teams to create, educate, and sustain evidence-based infection prevention strategies, as well as provide feedback
  • Conducts on-going surveillance using Centers for Disease Control (CDC) infection criteria
