Starting Pay: $38 - $44/Hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in implementing recommendations from the Infection Control Committee.
  • Plans, develops, implements and evaluates the infection control program in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern such requirements in the center.
  • Serves on, participates in and attends Infection Control Committee meetings.
  • Conducts Infection Control Surveillance (follow infection control policy and procedure manual).
  • Participates in the review of patients for admission to the nursing center, as requested.
  • Participates in tracing possible sources of infection within the nursing center.
  • Assists in monitoring personnel’s use of established barrier precautions and aseptic technique.
  • Prepares monthly summaries of patient/personnel infections, corrective action taken and the results of the corrective action.
  • May be required to provide that adequate supplies of protective equipment and supplies are on hand and readily available as needed.
  • May be required to suggest the replacing of protective equipment as indicated.
  • Makes rounds to nursing units for the purpose of surveillance, review of environmental sanitation procedures and supervision of barrier precautions/practices.
  • Assists in establishing the TB testing and record keeping for associates.
  • Assists in developing and implementing guidelines for the decontamination and sanitation activities performed in the nursing center.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to ensure the success of the System.
  • Reviews and analyzes pertinent laboratory reports and consult with appropriate persons in developing the plan of care.
  • Provides that patients with specific communicable diseases are placed on appropriate infection control precautions.
  • Conducts in-services education of all departments regarding infection control.
  • Prepares summaries of outbreak investigations and submits to the Corporate Infection Control Consultant.
  • Maintains a written record of patients and associates who have nosocomial infections.
  • Monitors to provide established isolation precautions and aseptic techniques are followed.
  • Assists in developing and implementing associate health services as they relate to Infection Control.
  • Assists departments in developing appropriate infection control practices.
  • Communicates to the Director of Nursing Services pertinent findings and recommendations pertaining to nosocomial infection.
  • Works with Director of Nursing to provide that laboratory support is available, including microbiological and serological services.
  • Provide personnel with information concerning the nursing centers guidelines governing Hepatitis B and other immunizations.
  • Recommends to the Director of Nursing Services the equipment and supply needs for maintaining an effective infection control program.
  • Contributes to the work of committees, workgroups, project management, and other collaborative efforts of the System.
  • Assists the Discharge Planning Coordinator in developing and implementing the discharge plan for the patient on infection control precautions.
  • Provides the Infection Control Committee with written summaries of nosocomial infections within the nursing center.
  • Assists the Infection Control Committee in evaluating and revising our infection control practices.
  • Provides in-service in infection control procedural guidelines as necessary.
  • Develops, implements and conducts in-service training programs relative to infection control.
  • May be required to assure medical waste is disposed of appropriately.
  • Maintains a reference library of written infection control material that should assist the nursing center in meeting the day-to-day needs of the patients.
  • Develops, implements and maintains an effective orientation program that orients the new associate to the infection control and associate health programs.
  • Monitors infection control practices and procedural guidelines to provide that personnel are implementing standard operating procedural guidelines.
  • May be required to assist in monitoring the health status of associates, to provide that staff receive (as necessary) appropriate immunizations, skin test, chest x-rays, physical, etc., during employment.
  • Conducts Infection Control Rounds (quarterly and more often if indicated by DON).
  • Monitors compliance in handling storage and disposal of biomedical waste. Promotes the image and reputation of the System by exhibiting servant leadership and providing direct and open lines of communication.
  • Identifies tasks that may result in the associate’s exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Monitors the nursing center is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA and local regulations concerning infection control and standard precautions.
  • Investigates outbreaks.
  • Assists in the implementation of a center-wide TB control program.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Effective and professional verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficient in using a computer, especially Microsoft Office, Excel and Power Point.
  • Communicates well with other associates, patients, family members, and visitors providing warm and friendly greeting and an approachable attitude. Responds to expressed concerns while displaying a helpful, caring demeanor, answers questions when appropriate in a professional manner.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or is a graduate of an approved RN program.
Active RN License to practice in the State of Georgia
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram format. The ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
