How does it get done?
The nurse in this position must be an independent thinker, decision-maker and self starter. There are complex decisions to be made in every program-Family Planning, Immunization, TB, Epidemiology and Communicable Disease, Sexually Transmitted Disease and Emergency Preparedness as well as know when to seek advice from a clinician and/or refer to another provider. The nurse has protocols and standing orders and must decide when and how to implement them for the good of the client and/or the public. Provides clinical support/services in the PHO clinic's and outreach sites utilizing protocols/provider orders. Participates in community and school collaboratives, specifically immunization outreach. Complies with federal, state, division and regional guidelines.

- Ensuring Compliance for lab and pharmacy regulations
- Ensuring adherence to clinical policies, protocols and procedures.
- Preparing and administering medications ordered by nursing-initiated protocol, standing orders and/or adjust treatment plan based on physicians orders.
- Providing Immunizations
- Delivering highly specialized public health services to the people in New Mexico
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico OR eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements OR Eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Candidate for this position must possess and maintain a current New Mexico Registered Nursing license or eligible for licensure in accordance with Nursing practice Act 61-3-2 through 61-3-31 NMSA 1978 and 16-1-1 through 61-12-20 NMAC, as applicable.
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must process and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act), and successful completion of CUA (Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act) trainings are required sixty days (60) of employment. Position will require Blood Borne Pathogen training and successful completion of (CPR course within thirty (30) days as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Services are provided in a clinic, auxiliary and community sites, and occasionally in the client's home with potential exposure to communicable diseases and computer usage for a variety of clinic and office functions. Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to VisualNideo Display Terminal (VDTI and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of office noise, bending, standing and lifting. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic populations, many who do not speak the English language.
