Job Description
Position Function


Provides guidance to managers and employees based on one or more of the following areas: Talent Management, Total Rewards, Performance Management, Employee Relations, Learning and Organizational Development, and Compliance. Provides support for external programs including workers compensation, drug testing, background screening, Employee Assistance Program, and the EthicsPoint reporting system.


Salary Grade : 15


Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Supports the Talent Management System by consulting with hiring managers in the planning, approval, and implementation of recruitment strategies. Provides support related to posting positions, advertising positions, applicant tracking and screening, and candidate selection.
  • Provides advice to management for employee relations issues and recommends a course of action based on written policy and procedures .
  • Consults with management to assess organizational structures, develop new and modify existing job descriptions, and provide staffing recommendations.
  • Provides guidance to managers and employees for a variety of Human Resources issues in one or more of the following areas: Talent Management, Total Rewards, Performance Management, Employee Relations, Learning and Organizational Development, and Compliance.
  • Consults with management and employees to facilitate resolution of work-related issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Documents advice and resolutions regarding employee relations, performance management, and employee discipline. Researches, identifies, and analyzes specific employee relations concerns and makes appropriate recommendations to management.
  • Provides guidance based on interpretation of University and IHL Board policies and procedures as well as applicable State and Federal laws related to human resources.
  • Reviews and analyzes data to recommend best practices.
  • Consults with management to address current and future hiring needs.
  • Acts as a liaison for Learning and Organizational Development programs; may create and conduct training sessions.


Minimum Qualifications


Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business, or other related discipline


Experience: Three years' experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities


Additional higher education may be considered in lieu of work experience for this position.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business, or other related discipline
  • Human Resources experience in higher education
  • PHR/SPHR Certification

  • Ability to effectively present to groups
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effectiveness as a team player
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and policies related to human resources, including employment, immigration/work authorization, equal opportunity/affirmative action, and other relevant government agency compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Power Point
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to foster a diverse and inclusive community.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills


Working Conditions and Physical Effort


No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.


Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; travel or irregular hours often anticipated; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis


Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands


Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 10 pounds
