Position Description
Job Title: Hospital Liaison
Reports To: Vice President of Business Development
Summary Description:
Reporting to the Vice President of Business Development, the Hospital Liaison is responsible for developing census as defined through targeted goals of the business plan and developing referral relationships within the geographic territory with an emphasis on face-to-face contacts. In addition, the liaison will assist with coordination of referral to admission conversion process and represent the company in community-related activities.
Standard Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Insurance Payor systems and current MMAI requirements.
  • Develop relationship with POA’s of referrals and follow-up on past/current referrals; even if they have gone to another facility, as they might need alternate placement.
  • Display or demonstrate our unique services and offerings using marketing materials.
  • Identify specialized programs or opportunities for census growth.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of facilities admission requirements, process, services and programs.
  • Communicate Insurance Contract opportunities to VP. of Business Development and facility
  • Support our company and facilities image through traditional and social media platforms.
  • Manage and respond to all incoming referrals within 15 minutes.
  • In collaboration with Admissions Director or designee, work with all facility staff to ensure appropriate patient placement and that all patient information is disseminated to key facility staff.
  • Regularly schedule visits with referral sources.
  • Collaborate and call on physicians, case managers, and social workers on strategic planning and business development.
  • Collaborate with Admission Director or designee to confirm that each referrals payer source meets standards of admission as dictated by facility policy.
  • Coordinate with the Admissions Director and facility staff for a smooth admissions process generating positive outcomes for residents.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all hospital accounts.
  • Travel throughout assigned territory to introduce our services to current and prospective referral sources.
  • Identify potential Hospitals and Physicians as referral sources.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with referral sources.
  • Investigate and resolve referral sources’ complaints. Communicate these complaints to VP. of Business Development and respective facility

  • Represent the facility at and participate in top-level healthcare meetings and with civic leaders.
  • In collaborating with the VP of Business Development, conduct competitor analyz=sis reports for each facility on a quarterly basis, at a minimum.
  • In conjunction with VP. of Business Development, develop and implement facility strategic plans, marketing reports, and marketing calendars for each assigned facility.
  • Create and execute hospital/facility events to include, but not limited to: Open Houses, CEUs, Inservice Meetings, etc.
  • Work in collaboration with VP of Business Development to setup meetings with local ACO staff. Assist and guide facility into acceptance into the ACO program.
  • Make written/oral recommendations to the VP. of Business Development and facility Administrator concerning our facilities marketing and reputation within the community or key referral sources
  • Profile new referral sources on an ongoing basis.
  • Follow all HIPPA guidelines. Promptly report suspected or known violations to the VP. of Business Development or facility Administrator
  • Complete all reports as requested/needed in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
The following Job Responsibilities should be consistently handed off to the Regional Director of Business Development of the region, without exception:
  • Evaluate opportunities for physician growth, preferred provider networks & insurance networks.
  • Gather market intelligence from assigned accounts
  • Identify hospital DRG codes on a monthly basis to assist in identifying potential clinical programming opportunities.
  • Complete monthly reports recapping evaluations within the marketplace
  • Maintain a quarterly marketing plan highlighting growth strategies for assigned territory
Other Duties:
As this job description is not intended to be all-inclusive, the employee will be expected to perform other essential functions and duties as assigned.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends, holidays when necessary. On call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Licensure or Certification:
  • Current driver’s license and acceptable driving record
_Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Marketing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with acute hospital, rehab hospitals and local healthcare market preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a healthcare liaison or successful sales experience in healthcare environment preferred.
Skills, Abilities & Requirements:
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Established relationships with local and regional healthcare markets is preferred.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Programs (word, excel, power point, etc.)
  • Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.
  • Extensive travel required. Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and communicate effectively.
Working Conditions:
Works from hospitals, office, and car. Must be able to move about intermittently during working hours including standing, lifting, bending, stooping, twisting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. Must be able to transfer residents and assist in emergency evacuations. Interacts with residents, family members, staff, visitors, government agencies/ personnel, etc., under all conditions/ circumstances. Must be able to relate and work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the facility. May be involved in community/civic health matters/ projects. May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses. Must be able to effectively communicate with the management staff, medical staff, nursing staff, and other unit supervisors. Maintains a liaison with residents, their families, support staff, etc. to assure that the residents’ needs are continually met.
