Job Description
Overview
Direct the SHWC Honors Program
Responsibilities
  • The registrar will share CRNs for the honors classes and verify that appropriate honors coursework is available.
  • Honors Program Activities
  • Accepted students will be sent letters which include a contract and scholarship offer.
  • As potential Honors Program students are identified by HWC leadership, the director will send letters (email) of invitation and application instructions as required.
  • The deans will track honors students’ GPAs to maintain compliance with honors program requirements.
  • Create the Honors Program Cohort
  • Ensure that all students are registered for honors courses each semester, one Limudei Kodesh, one General studies.
  • Prior to Fall semester:
  • Class grades will be submitted for each Honors Program student.
Serve As Director Of The Honors Program Leadership Class
Bi-weekly classes will occur during the Fall and Spring Semesters (for a total of 15-16 classes / year) at an agreed upon schedule, with a focus on Leadership. The director creates the program in discussion with the deans and is the director of the Honors Leadership Class.
Oversee The Motzaei Shabbos Halacha Shiur / Melava Malka
A hallmark of the Honors Program is the Motzaei Shabbos Halacha Shiur / Melava Malka. This program is meant for HWC students and post seminary young women of the community. Honors students are required to attend. It is also broadcast on Zoom. It is held for 1 hour during the winter months and is followed by food and fun. 3 students from the Honors Program will form the committee to oversee this program.
The Menahel Ruchani will invite Rabbanim of the Community to present a Halacha Shiur for 4 weeks during the winter months, and share the list with the Honors Student committee. The Director of Student Success will create the Flyer and share this with the committee as well. The committte will oversee PR for the program and Zoom access for the event. The committee also produces a compendium of the halachos discussed at the shiur for dissemination. ( For this coming fall, Sara Faiga Gluck has volunteered to take on this responsibility as one member of the committee.)
Direct Apogee – the HWC Academic Journal
The Journal is published every year in time for graduation (75 copies). Exceptional student work from limudei kodesh and general education instructors, as well as student self-produced writings are solicited by a designated committee of 2 students from the Honors Program. Rabbi Olstein, Mrs. Lipshitz and Dr. Tessler may contribute as well. Faculty submissions should be solicited in late fall. Honors students are responsible for submitting at least one Apogee-worthy paper. It can be from their HWC Israel Option year. Honors Program thesis papers from the prior two semesters are included as well. Submitted papers are then peer edited by members of the committee and submitted to the general editor of Apogee (Mrs. Devri Ehrlich.) All Hebrew words must be transliterated into English spelling for printing purposes.
  • Thesis Guidance and Presentation
Work with students in their final semester on a thesis paper/research project. Review topic selection for appropriateness and length and establish workplan and deadlines.
Organize the student theses presentations. At the end of the fall and spring semesters, before finals:
  • Refreshments should be provided.
  • Invite faculty members and parents (if applicable)
  • Confirm the space with the deans. Presentation can occur during the Honors Program timeslot.

Education/Experience
  • Experience with project management, Jewish women initiatives and activities to promote Torah based growth, engagement, and satisfaction.
  • Experience working with the college-level student population.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Able to lift up to 5 lbs.
  • Extensive time sitting and standing.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the particular constituencies served by the campus.
  • Strong commitment to fostering student learning and academic excellence.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
