Honeywell Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of Honeywell, investing in early and later stage startup companies that have the potential to contribute to Honeywell’s growth. Honeywell Aerospace, one of Honeywell’s strategic business groups, is a leading provider of jet engines, electric propulsion units, avionics, flight controls, autonomy, actuation systems and space technologies.
THE POSITION
This position reports into Honeywell Ventures and is focused on investments that align to Honeywell Aerospace. You will report to the Managing Director of Honeywell Ventures, and matrix-report to the Vice President of Technology Strategy of Honeywell Aerospace.
The position is based in Silicon Valley.
Honeywell is seeking a proven and creative venture capital investor with a background in aerospace. The ideal candidate has both institutional and corporate venture capital experience, and a passion for all things aerospace. You will understand take the time to understand Honeywell Aerospace’s businesses, their strategies and technology roadmaps. Together with members of the Aerospace Leadership Team, you will develop investment theses. You will then identify target companies that express the theses, vetting them and ultimately investing in the top startups. You will also identify institutional investment funds focused in aerospace, develop relationships with them and possibly invest in them. Ultimately, you are responsible for developing, nurturing and managing the “innovation ecosystem” for Honeywell Aerospace. This includes establishing relationships and investments in targeted incubators, accelerators, startups, other funds and strategic advisory networks. You will be responsible for both sourcing new investments and overseeing portfolio companies, including serving as board observer and driving engagement between portfolio companies and Honeywell Aerospace. You ultimately have a dual mandate: to generate an outsize financial return for Honeywell Ventures, and generate organic revenue growth for Honeywell Aerospace.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and conduct due diligence (technical / commercial / market) for prospective investments with active engagement from Honeywell Aerospace – estimate deal size and exit potential and timing
- Drive routine reviews with the investment portfolio partners and their business unit sponsors to ensure all mutual plans and commitments are being met or effective mitigation plans are in place – update periodically on the state of select markets and technology themes
- Build a vibrant ecosystem of partners, co-investors and other influencers – represent Honeywell as an ambassador of our innovation strategy and operating culture & values.
- Actively collaborate and support the deal making & decision approval process – act as the partner advocate and identify the critical success factors to facilitate a mutually beneficial deal structure
- Proactive deal scouting, screening, and sourcing across key investment areas and geographies that are directly aligned with both the corporate strategy in accessing disruptive innovations and Honeywell Aerospace’s business directions
Salary: 232,000 - 350,000
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Able to travel extensively as needed to startup companies – especially Los Angeles, investor conferences and ke Honeywell Aerospace sites – especially Phoenix and Minneapolis (expect 50%)
- Adept at networking and building new relationships based on proactive research and assessment of common needs and outcomes
- 5+ years of relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years in venture capital roles
- Highly analytical thinking combined with creative, out-of-the-box ideas
- Flawless oral and written communication skills, able to present succinctly and clearly to C-level executives
- Background in technology
- Ability to get things done simply, quickly and effectively
- Proven acumen in assessing investment opportunities, financial modeling, managing transactions and identifying key signals regarding portfolio health and future performance
WE VALUE
- Bachelor's Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering and / or computer science
- A pilot’s license is highly desirable, although not required
- 3 – 5 years experience in venture capital
- 3 – 5 years experience in technical roles in aerospace companies
- A broad and deep network in the aerospace industry and with top-tier venture capital firms
- Masters in Business Administration from a top-tier graduate school
