Summary:
Histotechnicians identify and accession specimens utilized in pathology and the histologic diagnosis of disease. In accordance with laboratory procedures, the Histotechnician prepares sections of human tissue for examination, using rapid tissue processing and/or frozen section technique to freeze, cut, mount and stain tissue specimens received form surgery, autopsy or outside sources. They operate computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, clear and infiltrate with paraffin wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by a pathologist.

Other information:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Minimum of high school diploma with 5 years of histology experience or training in NCCLS approved Histotechnician program.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, BONDING: ASCP or equivalent registry preferred.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a clean, well-lighted, air-conditioned environment. Exposure to blood/body fluids and chemicals with protective measures and follow up treatment provided. Frequent stressful conditions encountered in workload and time management. Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods.

This job will be authorized 8.00 hours bi-weekly.
