HIM/Medical Records Technician

Responsible for coordinating the release of medical information to all requesters including patients, physicians, insurance companies, lawyers and other healthcare providers. Responsible for processing subpoenas and court orders as well as verifying authorizations to ensure they are in agreement with hospital policy and procedures and state and federal laws. This person will be required to stamp all requests for records with a date received stamp and will also log all correspondence requests into excel. This person will consult with their manager or supervisor if there are any unusual requests. Notifies requester when records are available for pick up. Picks up, sorts and delivers all departmental mail to appropriate personnel on a daily basis. Responsible for scheduling appointments for review of records by attorney, auditors, patients, and insurance companies. S/he aides in data collection and performs other duties as assigned.
