Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products.
As an Operator, you will be essential to the daily operational needs of the terminal to ensure that the company and customer's needs are met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate D-9 and/or D-10 Dozers equipped with concave blade attached across front to gouge out, level, and distribute petroleum from storage to re-claimer, from processing units/pit to storage in a safe and efficient manner.
- General clean up of product through the use of a Bobcat, shovels, or water hose; Clean and perform basic housekeeping duties.
- Understand inspection procedures and complete inspection report on equipment.
- Train and perform other operational duties based on location including, but not limited to: barge duties, shiploader duties, and conveyor operations.
- Operate Bulldozer in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade.
- Assist coworkers and maintenance crew on various jobs.
- Operate Front End Loader, Bobcat, Manlift, Track Hoe, and/or Forklift.
- Maintain all mobile and stationary equipment by performing preventive maintenance, i.e.: lubricating, cleaning, greasing, adding gear lubricants and other minor maintenance and repairs; Document all activity performed.
- Maintain radio communication with crew to ensure proper equipment operation.
Position Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.
Specific Experience and Knowledge
- Relevant work experience and/or training.
- A minimum of one to three month's experience and/or training combined operating heavy equipment. OR
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Must pass and complete Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations.
- Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers and must be willing to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment.
- Must obtain and/or meet all requirements as required by customers to work in their facilities such as DISA and/or ISTC background checks; Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) may be required.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
- Understand and comply with customer and Kinder Morgan's rules and policies.
- Must be willing to be on-call as dictated by operations.
- Must be willing and able to work as a part of team, take direction from supervisor(s), keep required work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules.
- Must be willing to work overtime with little or no notice during the week, weekends, holidays, etc as dictated by operations.
- In order to perform essential duties, regular work attendance is required.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, reach, etc. for extended periods of time.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock.
- This position consist of outside work, adverse weather conditions may apply.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience operating: D-9/D-10 Dozer, Crane, Locomotive, and/or Front-end Loader.
- Previous experience in the following areas: barge operations, shiploading and conveyor operations.
- Heavy equipment certification(s).
