The Heavy Equipment Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, ownership, and coordination of the operations of heavy equipment, including mobile equipment, that are used to support distribution and refueling activities with a new renewable fuel source in a mine site environment. This position requires a strong understanding of heavy equipment, including vehicle operations and maintenance. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a self-driven work ethic, be able to communicate and coordinate with a diverse team of specialties, and have an interest in learning and helping contribute to improving vehicle design.
Experience with articulated dump trucks, especially the CAT 745 model or similar equipment, is of strong preference.
Position Responsibilities
- Order and track inventory of parts and supplies
- Coordinate the activity of the heavy mobile equipment with the mine site operators (external to First Mode), external contractors, and other First Mode staff onsite to manage traffic, coordinate activities, and ensure efficient and effective operation of the vehicles at the mine sit
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures
- Train new employees, including operators, on heavy vehicle operations and safety procedures
- Provide input and advice into overall vehicle activity, including areas for improvement with regards to safety, stability, and operational efficiency
- Establish and maintain a daily operational procedure for the relevant heavy mobile equipment, including checklists, regular inspections, forms and records, and organization of operators
- Conduct regular inspections of heavy vehicles to ensure proper maintenance
- Coordinate overall regular preventative maintenance and emergency maintenance with a 3rd-party contractor
- Where possible, perform basic maintenance and sampling procedures directly
- Coordinate with the engineering team to enable the safe and effective participation of the heavy mobile equipment in those tasks, including tests and distribution of equipment around the mine sit
- Provide input to future vehicle platforms based on experience with the current vehicles onsite
- Compile and submit reports on vehicle usage and maintenance
Basic Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a Class A or B commercial driver's license
- Further technical degree focused on heavy equipment maintenance and operations
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment coordination
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- MSHA training will be required, but can be provided
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with vehicle assistance systems is a plus (HMI controls, speed limiters, collision avoidance systems)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with creating regular reports with photo documentation
- Strong organization and problem-solving skills
- Training and previous experience driving heavy mobile equipment is preferred
- Rigging experience and certification is preferred
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to work occasional overtime
- Must be able to clim ladders and work in tight spaces
- Must be willing to travel
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Location
- The majority of the working time will be spent on the mine site in Centralia, Washington. Anticipated schedule is 5 days per week, 8 hours per day. Additional time on weekends may be required in intensive working periods. Travel to site for alarms received during off hours may also be required
- Travel to First Mode headquarters in Seattle, Washington for meetings and coordination with the engineering team. The total time in Seattl is likely ~10%, or two times per month.

Base Salary Range: $63,750 - $95,675
Heavy Equipment Coordinator I: $63,750 - $80,625
Heavy Equipment Coordinator II: $75,650 - $95,675
