Health Educator Jobs

Summary:
Under general supervision of the Weight Management Medical Director and the Behavioral Medicine Clinical Director and in accordance with established policies and procedures works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver weight management health and behavioral education groups events & workshops to meet the needs of the weight management program patient. The ultimate goal of the education is long-term lifestyle change aimed at achieving the health benefits of effective weight management. This role includes the responsibilities to abide by established policies and procedures to evaluate assess and contribute to a team treatment disposition based on relevant Weight Management Program treatment protocols. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patients.
Responsibilities:
Contributes to the development promotion and implementation of weight management behavioral educational groups programs events & workshops to meet the educational needs of the weight management patient.
Adapts the education material to meet the learning needs and language barriers of the patient population and assesses their readiness to learn prior to any teaching encounter.
Continuously reviews and updates educational materials and presentations provided to the patient population. Provides appropriate and readable teaching aids to reinforce lesson content and establishes a tools or methods that evaluate patient comprehension. Utilizes the wide range of available technologies to provide individual health selfmonitoring and promote positive health behaviors.
Performs comprehensive evaluation and assessment of new patients obtains patient history pertinent diagnostic data and risk factor information according to established protocols and makes referrals to program psychologist for more extensive evaluation as needed.
Works collaboratively with other team members to plan for patient care with optimal outcomes.
Assesses psychosocial adjustment to treatment and weight loss and makes referrals to program psychologists for more intensive treatment as needed.
May assist manager in functional supervision and instruction of students and volunteers.
Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.
Participates in projects which promote the growth and development of The Weight Management Program.
Performs other duties as required.
Other information:BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Masters Degree in Health Education or related field.
Knowledge of weight management and behavioral change.
Certified Health Educator Specialist (CHES) preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
One year of experience in a weight management program in a research or commercial preferably in a clinical environment.
Experience in providing individual and group educational programs for patients or other consumers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
