The Fresno County Department of Public Health is offering an exceptional career opportunity for dynamic individuals interested in pursuing a career as a Health Education Specialist.


The Health Education Specialist coordinates, implements, and assists in developing public health education/promotion activities. Responsibilities include implementing and analyzing promotional projects, conducting presentations and informational/training programs, and preparing reference materials for the Department and the public.


One of the current vacancies is within the Black Infant Health (BIH) Program. The BIH program is an evidence-informed intervention using a group-based approach, which focuses exclusively on empowering Black/African American women and birthing individuals. BIH provides client-centered life planning, goal setting and referrals to vital care and support services, to improve Black infant and maternal health, as well as decrease health inequities in infant and maternal mortality rates. The selected candidate will conduct participant enrollment activities and case conferencing with local BIH staff, provide case management, facilitate group sessions that focus on mental health issues, and conduct trainings on the basics of maternal and infant mental health.


Please note : Some vacancies may require bilingual skills in Spanish . However, the eligible list established from this recruitment will also be used to fill vacancies that do not require bilingual skills and for both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.


Positions in this classification are in Medical Group I - Light Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting of small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.

Minimum Qualifications Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree in Health Education, Health Science, Public Health, or a closely related field that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.


License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent.

Selection Process


Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for the process listed below:

Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list, effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to an additional 12 months), and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
