Job Description

Job Title: Head of Strength & Conditioning
FLSA Status: Exempt
Department: Athletic and Personal Development (APD)
Position Summary: Lead and oversee the strength & conditioning staff and department at IMG Academy
Position Responsibilities
Team & Culture
  • Develop a team culture of positivity, trust and respect
  • Build, Foster, Nurture and Support the S&C team
  • Facilitate a collaborative culture and build strong working relationships across a transdisciplinary performance team (e.g., Sport Science, Nutrition, Athletic Training, Mental Conditioning, Leadership) and other stakeholder groups (e.g., Sport Coaches, Directors, external IMG partners, sponsors and more)
  • Create a culture of proactive feedback and development for staff
Leadership And Management
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding and development of staff
  • Oversee the management of multiple training facilities
  • Lead the assessment, monitoring, evaluation and reporting procedures for strength & conditioning
  • Champion APD initiatives for the S&C department
  • Oversee the supervision and management of large team of S&C Coaches
  • Relevant experience in administration and management
  • General administration duties
  • Bring a passion for leading people
  • Ensure S&C coaches are meeting standards and expectations for day-to-day business needs (on time, attendance reporting, communication, testing procedures and data entry, AMS usage, and other business processes)
  • Navigate any challenges within the department and hold S&C coaches accountable
  • Relevant experience coaching athletes on the floor
  • Create a culture of excellence with communication, attention to detail, urgency, and accountability
  • Support, guide, and create buy-in for the APD VMOST, IMGA core values, and the future of IMGA APD
  • Prioritization: Ability to see what needs to be done now vs what we want to do in the future
Vision/Philosophy/Methodology
  • Bring the ability for bigger picture thinking
  • Improve the quality of training programs through the application of evidence-based best practices in S&C and youth athlete development
  • Take us to the next level – externally and internally by using systems and processes that influence the entire department and Academy
  • Provide expert solutions to coach, player & program needs in the field of S&C
  • Building the overall IMGA S&C vision and methodology that supports the overall Academy mission
Staff Growth and Development
  • Deliver and assist in managing professional development for staff internally and externally, as well as look to bring in continuing education opportunities
  • Accountability of staff to day-to-day standards and bigger picture initiatives
  • Observation of sessions with feedback regularly given to staff using a structured feedback system (at least quarterly for formal feedback, with additional informal feedback)
  • A broad awareness of the business aspect of IMGA and how to navigate and promote it
  • Coach, mentor and develop direct reports and a large team of S&C coaches (20+ coaches)
Youth Athlete Development
  • Experience working with youth in S&C
  • Play a key role in shaping and influencing long term athlete development and the athlete development model at IMG Academy
  • Athlete Development Model knowledge and expertise
Delivery
  • Assist, as required, with delivery of S&C programs including those for boarding school, camp, professional and other clients both internally and externally
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to all
  • Responsible for staff assignments, scheduling and projects
  • Oversee the programming of S&C programs at IMG Academy
  • Support IMG Institute, sponsorship, coach and parent education, team and group training and events where necessary
Business development
  • Encourage the S&C staff to contribute to the field through presentations, education and being experts in the field
  • Work with Endeavor & IMGA administration and stakeholders to advance initiatives under the scope of the larger corporate business
  • Evaluate potential products and services that could enhance the services provided at IMG Academy
  • Implement, lead and support initiatives as directed, working across people, process and technology, to grow IMG Academy
  • Enhance the profile of IMG Academy through articles, publications and presentations that create recognition as a world leader for youth athlete development
Data & Technology
  • Use data to inform practice within S&C
  • Support the implementation and execution of an athlete management system that supports the core business activities at IMG Academy and results in a systemized approach to data collection, analysis and implementation
  • Establish performance benchmarks for ensuring the optimal impact of IMG programs for our student-athletes
All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Adaptable and flexible to a dynamic work environment

  • Minimum 5 years overseeing direct reports
  • Open and responsive to feedback
  • A desire to work with and develop youth athletes and coaches
  • Minimum 10 years professional, collegiate, prep or high school coaching experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical development or related area (S&C, exercise science/physiology, sport science, sports nutrition, sports medicine, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills with the ability to interface with a variety of audiences
  • Create a selfless and positive team that fosters transdisciplinary collaboration
  • Bring passion, a positive attitude, a high work ethic, and adaptability
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced organization
  • Knowledge of S&C research and best practice
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • A superior work ethic
  • Ability to bring business orientation and operational excellence while focusing on student-athlete welfare
  • Promote a diverse and inclusive hiring process and environment
Preferred Skills
  • Master’s degree or higher in physical development or related area (S&C, exercise science/physiology, sport science, sports nutrition, sports medicine, etc.)
  • Ability to mentor to a wide range of coaches in terms of sports, age and ability
  • Experience in managing large S&C teams and working with transdisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of sport, technology and innovation
  • Experience with working with the developing athlete
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40 pounds
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time
  • Ability to move around large campus including gym, turf, fields, etc.
