Our Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.


About The Role


You will be responsible for assisting in fish breeding, maintaining hatchery records, ensuring fish health and genetic control, as well as transporting and stocking fish. Additionally, you will provide guided tours of the hatchery facility, offering educational experiences to members of the public.


As a Guide Attendant you will;


  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals. Building and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders is crucial to the success of the hatchery operations.
  • Contribute to maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the hatchery grounds. This includes keeping operational and servicing records and ensuring the efficient use of resources as well as catering to the needs of visitors to the facility.
  • Operational demands may require occasional work outside of core hours
  • You will have the opportunity to provide guided educational tours to visitors of the hatchery facility. These tours aim to inform and engage the public by sharing knowledge about fish production, conservation efforts, and the importance of maintaining healthy fish populations.
  • Undertake regular inspections, update operational records, and complete minor repairs to mechanical equipment as part of your duties.
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively under a variety of hydrological and climatic conditions
  • This role follows a 10 day on-4 day off roster system so the applicant must be available for weekend work when on duty
  • Participate in fish breeding activities, including the maintenance of fish ova, fry, and fingerlings. This involves ensuring the well-being of the fish and implementing genetic and disease control procedures.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the hatchery plant and equipment, including recirculation systems, ponds, tanks, pumps, and filtration systems.
