Purpose
The Guest Services Manager is part of the team responsible for supporting front-facing activities and guest services before, during, and after events presented, produced, or supported by Texas Performing Arts. Reporting to the Director of Guest Experience, the position manages assigned aspects of parking, security, safety, access, food and beverage, on-site retail and front-of-house facilities. The Guest Services Manager supports Texas Performing Arts’ mission to be a welcoming space for everyone to share in the experience of live theater.
Responsibilities
  • Perform other related functions as assigned. This job description may not be inclusive of all assigned duties, responsibilities, or aspects of the job described.
  • Guest Experience Planning: Create a welcoming, safe, enjoyable experience for all Texas Performing Arts guests by planning assigned aspects of TPA’s public-facing operations, including parking, security, safety, access, food and beverage, on-site retail and front-of-house facilities. With the Guest Services team, maintain audience health and safety plans and ensure compliance with all relevant life safety, building, and fire codes. Assist in ensuring compliance with state and university safety and security policies. Develop and maintain parking and traffic plans with the Guest Experience and Event Management teams in coordination with supporting university departments and outside contractors. Proactively coordinate with campus and city partners regarding adjacent and overlapping events.
  • Guest Communications: Support the development and deployment of informational campaigns such as Know Before You Go emails, social media messaging and web pages. Coordinate informational, institutional and promotional signage on-site and in-venue with the Marketing & Communications and Development teams. Respond to guest inquiries and engage with guest feedback in direct and public messaging through all communication channels. Conduct real-time and follow-up guest issue resolution. Track, report and continuously seek to improve key guest service metrics.
  • Event Operations: When assigned, serve as the on-site front-of-house event manager. Manage volunteers and house managers. Manage parking and traffic staff and resources with supporting university departments and outside contractors. Manage ancillary activities in front-of-house spaces such as special events, sponsor activations and rental events. Manage merchandise and VIP package operations on assigned event days. Coordinate special setups required in front-of-house spaces to support programming, engagement, development or other events.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated passion for delivering memorable guest experiences and accomplishment creating a culture of hospitality.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least three (3) years of frontline operations experience in a professional performing arts, entertainment, events or athletics venue or equivalent experience in the hospitality sector such as food & beverage or hotel venues.
  • Demonstrated experience with key guest service concepts including service strategy design, exceptional service delivery, and recovery from service failures.
  • Effective Communications: Demonstrated understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Service Excellence: Demonstrated knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Demonstrated understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
  • High level of proficiency with office technology such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Slack, and Zoom.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with food & beverage services, parking & transportation management, or volunteer and part-time staff management in a large capacity, high turnover hospitality context.
  • Relevant professional education or credentials.
  • Interest in and strong commitment to the mission and programs of Texas Performing Arts.
  • Experience managing front-of-house operations in a performing arts or entertainment venue.
  • Experience in teaching, mentorship, or training roles; experience managing and mentoring student employees and volunteers.
  • More than the minimum required years of experience.
  • Experience working with external stakeholders such as rental clients or visiting artists and productions.
  • Familiarity with Texas Performing Arts venues; familiarity with Austin-area venues.
  • Fluency in a language other than English.
Salary Range
$50,000 + depending on qualifications

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Prolonged screen time.

  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • This position is based in Austin, Texas. This position is eligible for a Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA), a combination of on-campus and remote work. FWAs are subject to manager approval and may shift due to changes in business needs.
Work Shift
  • In addition to the standard M-F, 8am - 5pm work shift, evening, weekend, and holiday work, including “on-call” times, are required in connection with performances and events. Working shifts may include extended daily hours in connection with performances and events. A compensatory time program is provided.
