What to Expect

Tesla is investing heavily to become an industry leader in battery design, engineering, and manufacturing and is building the Battery Raw Materials supply chain team to support EV and stationary storage production at the TWh/yr scale. As a Group Manager on the Battery Raw Materials team, you will play a critical role in building a global battery raw material supply chain to enable EV industry growth, deliver cutting edge products, and drive positive impact to the environment. The Battery Raw Material team is high performing and responsible for a huge scope of work, so you will have an opportunity to drive an outsized impact on the success of Tesla’s battery programs. What You’ll Do
  • Guide GSMs to develop detailed cost models and utilize them to refine category strategy, define prices, negotiate long term pricing for sourcing and cost reduction
  • Lead the development and implementation of scalable demand planning and forecasting processes to ensure the right materials are available at the right time to meet production schedules
  • Manage relationships with suppliers to ensure they are meeting quality and delivery standards, and negotiate contracts and pricing to achieve cost savings and improve supplier performance
  • Lead large-scale supplier investment projects from idea to implementation
  • Lead a team in developing and implementing a comprehensive supply chain strategy by analyzing current market conditions, technology roadmaps, changing geopolitical risks, and supply/demand challenges & opportunities
  • Negotiate high value long-term deals and supply agreements to scale Battery Raw Material capacity to TWh/yr scales
  • Conduct global market analysis for Battery and Battery Raw Materials trends and innovative technologies to identify new suppliers and partnerships opportunities
  • Drive collaboration with engineering and development teams to understand requirements and ensure supply chain is equipped to meet their needs
  • Create competitive environments with suppliers to support your negotiation strategy
  • Lead the vendor selection process with engineering teams, including raw material specification, vendor technology and capabilities assessment, and alternative product options
What You’ll Bring
  • Prior experience with Batteries, Battery Materials preferred but not required
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high-pressure, dynamic environment
  • Willingness to travel
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, with ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Strong technical writing ability and an ability to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner
  • Experience building and managing a team in a dynamic environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively to find solutions to complex issues
  • Dedication to the Tesla mission of accelerating the transition to renewable energy
  • BS Degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Chemical / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science or evidence of experience and exceptional ability; Advanced degrees preferred (e.g. MS, PhD, or MBA) · 10+ years of work experience in Global Supply Management, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Supplier Industrialization Engineering OR Experience in battery cathode materials, inorganic chemistry, chemical or material mass production
