This position will provide grounds maintenance and pest control support on Arizona Army national Guard grounds and facilities. Responsible for trimming and pruning of all trees and shrubs in improved areas; road maintenance including repair potholes and removal of road obstructions; keeping fence lines clear of obstructions and weeds; selecting tracking and applying proper types and amounts of pesticides and herbicides. Responsible for testing, repair, and installation of all irrigations systems. Responsible educating inmates and Maintenance Technicians in the proper use, safety, and maintenance of all ground maintenance equipment. Responsible for supervising the grounds including, scheduling, project assignment and training. Ensuring that all tasks are completed on time, efficiently and economically.
- Performing regular service checks and services on all the ground’s equipment, to include but not limited to: Tractors, Kibotas, Bobcat, chain saws, pole saws, blowers, mowers, brush hog and grapple.
- Ensuring all supplies are stocked and available, and advise the Supervisor when supplies are running low.
- Maintaining a record of material and chemicals used, equipment, working hours expended, vehicle mileage and other information required for work projects.
- Ensuring all safety standards are followed and work is to standards.
- Assisting in the design, installation, and maintenance of underground watering systems with automated features. Assists in the design, and care of indoor and outdoor flower beds and gardens.
- Overseeing all work activities associated with grounds maintenance including but not limited to mowing, weeding, pruning, watering, raking, and trimming on all Army National Guard facilities in the Southern region.
- Ensuring a safe work environment for inmates and others assisting in a project.
- Assists Facility Maintenance Operations (FMO) maintenance staff on other projects as needed.
- Techniques and Safety precautions in the use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and other plant chemicals and soil amendments
- Automated watering systems
- Equipment, materials, methods, and practices in generalized groundskeeping
- Federal and local safety laws, rules and policies governing work activities and safety equipment
- All common hand and power tools used in the workplace for grounds
- Preventative maintenance, repair and servicing of grounds equipment and tools
Skilled in:
- Basic computers use and programs (Microsoft Office, Pride Web)
- The use of common hand and power tools
- The operation of powered tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance
- Communication; orally and in writing
- Driving while trailering heavy equipment; mower, tractor w/brush hog, sprayer, etc.
Ability to:
- Work on machinery that is Safe and locked out.
- Read and understand Federal and local safety Laws, rules, and policies
- Maintain interpersonal relationships.
Desired qualifications include any combination of experience, education and training that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities described. 3-5 years of experience in grounds maintenance and experience in Irrigation design and installation.
- Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background investigation as well as possess the ability to achieve a favorable Tier 1 investigation for the purpose of obtaining a Common Access Card (CAC) within one year of hire.
- Must be willing and able to supervise DOC minimum-security inmates.
- Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state issued driver's license. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete a required driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).
- In State travel required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona State Pesticide and Herbicide license within 6 months from date of hire.
