team on Main Campus is responsible and committed to providing the Georgetown University community services related to campus planning and design, capital projects, custodial, facility maintenance, grounds and landscaping, sustainability, transportation and parking, and utilities. Its Grounds and Landscaping Department is responsible for the preservation, restoration and maintenance of Georgetown's Main Campus – including Healy Hall, a designated National Historic Landmark - and for maintaining an aesthetically pleasing, clean, and welcoming outdoor experience for the community.

Job Overview
The Grounds Manager - responsible for overseeing the year-round operations of University grounds - provides hands-on leadership with special projects, installation and maintenance of the green areas, hardscapes, and building exteriors; and manages all relevant work performed by contractors.
They directly lead and supervise around twenty facilities employees; including: laborers, equipment operators, landscape laborers, landscape gardeners, landscape gardener II’s, groundskeepers, and masons.
The Grounds Manager organizes and assigns work verbally and/or via requests received through a computerized maintenance management system (Maintenance Connection), assigns tasks and conveys instructions, supervises performance at the job site, and reports back to the Assistant Director upon completion of jobs.
They supervise and perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of improved and semi-improved land on Georgetown's Campus, and of automated lawn irrigation sprinkler systems; provide technical expertise and knowledge necessary to maintain the University's grounds in the most aesthetic, healthy and safe manner; and play a major role in supervising, performing and supporting preparations for special and Signature Events – including outdoor events, sports events, Senior Week, Commencement ceremonies, Alumni Reunion Weekend, Homecoming, and student move-in and move-out.
Additionally, they properly dispose of yard waste; monitor, coordinate and manage inclement weather operations, to include snow and ice removal and storm cleanup operations; collaborate with in-house and visiting landscape architects, designers, and contractors, and support the Planning and Facilities Management Departments’ activities as needed; and participate in the Division's Facilities Buildings Inspection Program.
Policies and Procedures: They administer and enforce all relevant departmental policies and procedures; monitor and verify proper response to, and compilation of, work requests generated in the computerized maintenance management system (Maintenance Connection); and evaluate employee performance, take appropriate steps to correct inadequate performance, and identify areas where additional training is needed.
Records Maintenance. They report employee time and attendance; review and approve employee time cards and requests for time off; prepare expenditure reports and yearly budgets; and maintain shop housekeeping and organization.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Grounds Manager supports the goals, objectives and mission of the Land and Waste Management Branch across all its areas of responsibility, to include supporting the efforts of the Recycling and Groundskeeping Sections.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Possession of a current vehicle driver's license issued by DC, Maryland or Virginia
  • Associate's degree in ornamental horticulture and/or combination of 8+ years of experience and education - with 4 of those years at the supervisory level
  • Possession of a current - or ability to obtain - a DC pesticide applicator's license (within 90 days of employment)
