Summary Statement


Join the incredibly dedicated Arts & History Team as a Grants and Public Programs Manager! In this exciting, cross-functional position, you will collaborate closely with the Communications Team as well as the broader team to support and uplift community members in Boise's established and emerging cultural fields through initiatives that build and nurture a strong and equitable community.


The Grants And Public Programs Manager


  • Identifies and facilitates professional development services that help build an economy that uplifts Boise's cultural sector
  • And, identifies and coordinates partnerships and programmatic opportunities between Arts & History, other city departments, and individuals and organizations working in the nonprofit and cultural sector in Boise.
  • Plans, develops, and administers all aspects of the annual Arts & History Grant Program


Essential Functions


Grant Program Administration:


  • Coordinates and monitors the purchasing and contract process.
  • Processes all grants and agreements throughout their lifecycle from pre- to post-award, ensuring proper due diligence and compliance.
  • Directly supports the director on grant-related projects, reports, and requests, including preparing communications for various stakeholders, staff, and elected leaders.
  • Coordinates communications, agreements, and invoicing processes for grant recipients, serving as the primary point of contact for grantees and/or potential grantees.
  • Works with the communications team to provide community outreach, marketing, and promotion of grant recipient projects and events.


Professional Development Services


  • Works with internal city partners and outside consultants to offer tools, resources, and training opportunities that help build an economy that uplifts Boise’s cultural sector.
  • Assists with the development of grant applications by researching outside funding and exploring potential opportunities for the department as well as for Boise cultural groups and creative individuals.
  • Initiates processes and facilitates trainings and workshops that aid with applying to the annual grant program, as well as other grant opportunities.


Public Programming


  • Coordinates annual program strategy, quarterly Program Guide publication, and department sponsored program schedule.
  • Identifies and coordinates partnerships and programmatic opportunities between Arts & History, other city departments, and individuals and organizations working in the nonprofit and cultural sector in Boise.
  • Coordinates related program logistics including, but not limited to planning events, coordinating with artists, performing arts groups, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Maintains grant applicant, program participant, and volunteer records.

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training


Bachelor’s Degree in an arts or humanities field and four years of experience managing public grants and programming in the non-profit cultural sector, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.


Demonstrated record of successfully fostering connections with artistic partners, program attendees, cultural organizations, and community groups, and of serving as a primary liaison between an institution and its public served.


Exceptional communication skills, written and oral and deftness with leading and moderating discussions.


High-level mastery of critical analysis, writing, editing, and ability to integrate initiatives into broader city planning objectives.


Knowledge of: public relations requirements and strategies; office practices and procedures; spreadsheet, database, and word processing software packages; and project management.


Ability to: produce reports synthesizing materials from various sources; envision, recommend, and implement process improvements; implement multiple projects concurrently; develop partnerships with individuals and organizations; plan and execute workshops and trainings; effectively speak in public; work well under pressure; provide effective oversight of independent contractor and/or temporary staff work; communicate effectively in the English language (verbally and in writing) at a level necessary for efficient job performance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.


Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.


Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training


Master’s degree in an arts and/or humanities field and five years of experience managing and coordinating grant programs or similar projects.


One year of previous experience overseeing the work of independent contractors.


Licensing And Other Requirements


Valid state-issued driver's license.

Working Environment


The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.


This position works: evenings and weekends as necessary for installations, dedications, and special events.
