Position Information
- Performs manual labor activities which may include: gathering materials and equipment, moving equipment, collecting and disposing of trash, and/or performing other related activities.
- Performs course repair and course and preservation duties including applying pesticides and fertilizers, tending to course areas requiring special maintenance, irrigation repair, and other related activities.
- Services and updates irrigation system for golf course; repairs, maintains, and cleans the irrigation system as needed.
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, which includes performing routine preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Assists the Golf Maintenance Manager as needed.
- Monitors and orders necessary inventory of janitorial supplies, golfing supplies (flags, trash cans, etc.) and other accessories; may run periodic price checks with vendors.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Performs general course maintenance duties including maintaining the course’s visual appearance which may include trimming, mowing, and trash pickup; assisting in determining the course’s playability; and additional maintenance projects as requested.
- Maintains, repairs, replaces, and/or installs various equipment and machines; assists with equipment purchasing decisions.
- Performs general golf course maintenance work such as mowing, edging, shrub and planting area clean-up, rakes sand traps, performs litter control, maintains trees and shrubs, changes holes on golf greens, mows roughs, trap bunkers, tee banks, etc.
- One year in the maintenance of refined turf areas, trees, shrubs, and other plantings and the operation of general mechanical maintenance and repair of turf equipment, or any suitable combination of experience and education, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
- First Aid/CPR Certification or obtain within ninety (90) calendar days or as scheduled.
- Completion of high school or equivalent.
- Pesticide Applicator License or obtain within ninety (90) calendar days or as scheduled.
- Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Driver’s License, except for corrected vision.
Required Knowledge and Ability:
- Deal courteously and tactfully with the public and other city employees.
- Ability and willingness to perform strenuous labor tasks under varying environmental conditions.
- Ability and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions and to keep accurate work records.
- Knowledge of safety precautions and the ability to identify hazards including electrical hazards.
- Knowledge of maintenance of golf courses, trails, trees, landscape beds, or facilities.
- Knowledge of ornamental plant material including trees, shrubs and groundcover, wood stock and their use and care in the landscape.
- Communicate effectively both written and verbal in English.
- Knowledge of proper pruning, planting, fertilizing, grinding of stumps and other related cultural practices.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Ability and willingness to work safely and in compliance with city policies and standards.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with supervisors, coworkers and the public.
- Ability to operate small hand and power tools and light equipment.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including, but not limited to, weekends and holidays.
- Punctual and dependable.
- Knowledge of the use of parks maintenance and/or golf course equipment.
