Core Responsibilities And Tasks
Sustainability is a growing business driver in coatings markets. This position is a strategic role, responsible for driving Sherwin-William’s Sustainability program in concert with one or more of our business divisions. This role will coordinate the efforts of all major internal stakeholder groups (including R&D, Commercial, Global Supply Chain, Purchasing & Communications), external stake holders and customers to advance sustainability commitments and enable capture of business value.
Sustainability Leadership/Strategy:
  • External and internal speaking engagements as needed
  • Create & deliver internal sustainability training to support sustainability strategy
  • Partner with Sales and Marketing leadership to include sustainability in product development pipeline
  • Build effective partnerships with external influencers – as needed – including investor rating agencies, NGO’s, environmental groups industry associations, community organizations etc.
  • Drive collaboration and communication between internal groups to support sustainability strategy (R&D, Commercial, Global Supply Chain, Purchasing & Communications) on a global level
  • Lead sustainability efforts with commercial partners including strategy development, customer meetings, association commitments, claims, etc.
  • Identify, monitor, and manage potential disruptors to coatings markets related to Sustainability
  • Partner with R&D and Suppliers to drive sustainability innovation pipeline for key raw materials and Responsible Procurement Roadmap
  • Liaise with key governmental affairs efforts to support sustainability strategy in NA, LA, EMEAI & APAC
  • Serve as the internal and external subject matter expert for Sustainability related topics
  • Monitor and report out mega-trends impacting sustainability & coatings
Sustainability Reporting
  • Report ESG data through appropriate external data portals to support investor relations.
  • Work within Communications, Legal, and Sustainability Governance structure to develop and publish annual sustainability report.
  • With the team, manage ESG disclosures such as SW’s ESG Metric Summary, GRI, SASB, TCFD, EcoVadis, and CDP.
  • Ensure readiness for SEC Reporting requirements and other forthcoming sustainability reporting rules
Sustainability by Design (SbD)
  • Partner with team to ensure timely completion of requested Lifecycle Assessment, Environmental Product Declarations, and 3 rd party certifications/ecolabel schemes.
  • Coordinate with leadership to develop long term product sustainability goals and develop action plan for success.
  • Liaise with business and technical leadership to grow uptake of SbD program
Position Requirements
  • Preferred:
  • 10+ years sustainability experience at a multinational corporation
  • Experience with LEED green building program, Green Screen, Green Health, Health Product Declarations, WELL, Living Building Challenge, and Environmental Product Declarations
  • Required:
  • Experience with public speaking or media training
  • Preferred:
  • Master’s degree with a concentration in environmental science/policy, engineering, business, or chemistry
  • Required:
  • KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
  • Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • FORMAL EDUCATION:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment methodology, standards, and interpretation of data
  • Minimum 7+ years experience in sustainability focused role(s)
  • Knowledge of emerging EU legislation and regulation, ability to develop deep understanding of sustainability trends in the region
  • Experience with change management in large organizations
  • Proven ability to manage matrixed organization to drive results
