Job Purpose

The enterprise architecture team plays a crucial role in aligning business goals with technology strategies and ensuring the effective management of an organization's IT infrastructure. As a member of the Global Enterprise Architecture team, the primary responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Planning: Developing and maintaining an enterprise architecture strategy that aligns with the organization's business objectives and long-term goals.
  • Architecture Governance: Establishing and enforcing architecture standards, policies, and guidelines to ensure consistency, interoperability, and security across the organization
  • Solution Design and Evaluation: Collaborating with stakeholders to design and evaluate IT solutions that meet business requirements
  • Technical Leadership: Providing technical expertise and leadership in the evaluation, selection, and adoption of emerging technologies. Enterprise architects guide the organization in making informed decisions regarding technology investments, architecture frameworks, and infrastructure design
  • Collaboration and Communication: Facilitating effective communication and collaboration between business units, IT teams, and stakeholders
  • Change Management: Assisting in managing organizational change by evaluating the impact of technology changes on business processes, systems, and stakeholders. Enterprise architects help in identifying potential risks, developing mitigation strategies, and guiding the implementation of changes to minimize disruption
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitoring the performance of the IT architecture, identifying areas of improvement, and recommending optimization strategies
  • Industry and Technology Research: Staying updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the energy utilities sector. Enterprise architects continuously evaluate new opportunities, assess potential risks, and provide insights on innovative solutions that can drive efficiency, sustainability, and competitive advantage

Key Accountabilities

  • Develops deep understanding of the applications supporting the Distributed Energy Resources domain and assesses how solutions align/fit within the broader enterprise architecture
  • Align domain-specific solutions with enterprise architecture standards and processes; understands surrounding solutions and enterprise information flow
  • Develops an understanding of the end-to-end business application processes and provides input into application roadmaps
  • Supports the value streams in scope for the programs and products supporting National Grid’s Infrastructure, and for each value stream creates a current state view of value stream, capabilities, master data, personas, applications, and key data flows. Creates iterations of this same view for key transition states with dependencies within and outside of the programs and products, setting the vision as enabler
  • Works with Key Business Stakeholders to understand the Business Strategy and Plan, supporting Business Architecture, and required capabilities for enabling business needs. Maintains current and future state business capability and application models
  • Provides guidance to an extended project team related to the solution architecture and technical design. Assists and advises product teams in the configuration, testing, implementation, and support of technical solutions

Qualifications

  • Experience in documenting and defining value streams, business capabilities, master data, personas, applications, and key data flows
  • Security related to the Utility Industry including highest security zones for control systems
  • Utility-related Intelligent Edge Devices (IED) and corresponding OT protocols such as 2030.5, DNP3, openFMB
  • Cloud technology
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline
  • Utility control systems such as ADMS, OMS, DERMS
  • Strong technical skills around vendor product selection, software and technology analysis, business analytics, interfaces such as REST, and modern software technologies such as Containers and Microservices
  • Experience with one or more of the TOGAF (or equivalent framework) architectural domains in business, application, data, technology; have used architecture tools such as Troux, Alfabet, Sparx or equivalent. Experience in architectural support of Agile delivery framework and digital product lifecycle
  • Understanding of key operations and data flows within an Electric Utility
  • Deep experience in technology related to DSO, such as:
    • Telecommunication including LAN, WAN, Wirelesss, SD-WAN, NSF
    • Security related to the Utility Industry including highest security zones for control systems
    • Utility control systems such as ADMS, OMS, DERMS
    • Cloud technology
  • Experience in developing architecture patterns with both custom and COTS applications
  • Telecommunication including LAN, WAN, Wirelesss, SD-WAN, NSF

$160,000 - $200,000 a year
