Gis Technician Level I

SUMMARY

The GIS Technician Level I position requires a forward thinking, energetic, and flexible individual that is dedicated to helping grow our geospatial software & data acquisition & analysis business. The GIS Technician Level 1 position will be under supervision of a GIS Analyst to provide GIS support in the daily maintenance, processing, analysis, and presentation of geographic data. This position requires versatility and eagerness to learn new material in a fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Comfortable navigating file explorer for basic data management and manipulation.

Perform geographic and non-geographic data manipulation, management, cartography, and utilize GIS processes using a variety of software environments.

Perform GIS data management tasks, such as importing data into geodatabases, clipping feature classes, vector & raster conversions, and other basic GIS editing operations.

Comfortable performing QA (Quality Assurance) duties to ensure validity and accuracy of data layers.

Comfortable using various data formats such as .laz, .las, .shp, .tiff etc.

Work with windows batch scripting to execute existing scripts for the automation of Geospatial tasks including LiDAR data.

Working knowledge of geospatial and mapping concepts such as spatial analysis, coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography and map scales.

Work with LiDAR point cloud data classifying objects, cleaning noise from the point cloud & segmenting point cloud data into class specific files.

Assist is possible field collections in local region.

Assist in loading and unloading UAV and GPS equipment for field collections from office to collection van.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Working knowledge with planning, organizing, and monitoring geospatial data and related activities and interpersonal skills.

Must be eager to learn new software.

Ability to independently make accurate and timely decisions.

Ability to work in a group setting.

Knowledge and use of ArcGIS and mobile GIS applications preferred.

Proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Ability to perform work accurately.

Perform other duties as needed.

JOB CONDITIONS

Sitting for extended periods of time in front of a computer monitor, exposure to office environments.

Must have valid driver’s license to get to work.

Vision must be sufficient to use computer monitor, telephone and other required office equipment.

Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities, regular walking, bending, standing and reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.

Regular office hours. Some additional hours of work may be needed for scheduled project completion.
