Gis Technician (Fiber) Jobs

MidSouth Electric Co-op is currently seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated GIS Technician to work in our GIS department. In this role you will be responsible for planning, design and maintenance of the MidSouth network following the Coops design standards in the ESRI-Based Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Qualifications:

• Programming knowledge (Python; Java; SQL; R; VB)
• Flexibility, Adaptability, and Reliability: You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities. You must also have the ability to be on call as needed with a reliable home internet connection.
• Strong sense of integrity and security.
• Bachelor of Science degree in GIS; Computer Science; or Earth Sciences (Geospatial, Physical Geography, Soil Science, or Geology) or other applicable technical degree
• Preferred experience with AutoCad
• Creative thinker with strong writing and analytical skills.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and the use of computers and computer software applications
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Good written and verbal communications skills
• Minimum of one (1) year with direct GIS experience. Preferred previous telecommunication network experience. An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.
• Preferred experience with CrescentLink and Futura ESRI Extensions
• Knowledge of ESRI Suite of Products (ArcGIS Pro; Desktop; ArcEditor; Server; Portal; ArcGIS Online)
• Ability to manage multiple activities effectively while meeting deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external customers
• Ability to work in the field collecting GPS data, light levels and other data verification projects
• Valid Texas Class C Driver's License: You must maintain a good driving record measured by MidSouth Electric Co-op criteria and remain insurable by our automotive insurance carrier.

Responsibilities as a GIS Technician (Fiber)

• Update and maintain the geodatabases utilizing drawings and electronic data sources
• Update and maintain the MidSouth workflows
• Performs field work collecting GPS, light levels and other data
• Supporting fiber new construction and development by preparing diagrams and work packets
• Generate information and data products (e.g., maps)
• Communicating with surrounding utilities and external entities
• Easement/plat research for construction
