Job Description
GIS Technician
Established in 1999, Transcon Environmental, Inc., offers environmental consulting services throughout the United States with our Corporate Office based in Mesa, AZ and offices in Ferndale, and Santa Rosa, California; Cedar City and Draper, Utah; Rawlins, Wyoming.
We are a steadily growing company with telecommuting opportunities employing over 200 employees throughout the United States. Our highly successful team of environmental planners, biologists and archaeologists provides environmental planning, permitting, and compliance as well as infrastructure siting, Class I and Class III studies, Historic Property Treatment Plans, and environmental construction management and monitoring. We are seeking a GIS Technician. The position is based out of California but could include working on projects managed by other offices. Candidates applying for this position will be based out of one of Transcon’s offices or remote from home.
Compensation and Benefits:
This full-time position is an exempt (salaried) position eligible for benefits such as healthcare insurance, 401k, paid time off, holidays, etc. Travel may be required for some projects. Compensation is based on qualifications, proficiencies, level of education, and years of relevant experience.
Location:
Remote work. While the position is based out of California, it may include working on projects managed by other Transcon offices or regions.
Skills and Requirements:
  • Ability to interact and coordinate with multi-disciplinary team members
  • Fluency in standard office computer applications including Adobe Acrobat Pro, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Word
  • Associate or Technical Degree in GIS plus 2 years of work experience or BA/BS Degree in related field
  • Experience in reading and understanding technical reports
  • Highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy
  • Ability to perform work duties independently and efficiently
  • Experience with Arc Map, utilizing standardized map templates, geospatial tool sets and spatial query techniques to produce the cartographic elements for technical reports
Experience in the following is preferred:
  • Use problem solving and critical thinking skills to interpret a variety of outside geospatial datasets
  • Process and interpret data collected from field operations for inclusion in geodatabase while ensuring informational and spatial accuracy
  • Utilize and interpret aerial imagery to aid in decision making
  • Potential to support additional biology, cultural, land planning, or project coordination as available/needed per the candidates work experience
  • Prepare and organize spatial deliverables for client
  • Experience with Google Earth Pro, Arc Collector, Arc Field Maps and Survey 1,2,3, etc.
  • Run spatial analysis queries using existing Python script tools
  • Utilize georeferencing techniques to digitize historic maps
