Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
This position will provide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial analysis in support a variety of research and monitoring initiatives of the North Inlet – Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NI-WB NERR). General duties will involve managing the NERR’s habitat mapping and spatial analysis efforts. Primarily, this will entail managing the long-term efforts to assess salt marsh and tidal creek habitat change through repeated surveys using Uncrewed Aerial Systems (aka drones), including UAS-based data collection, image processing using Pix4Dmapper software and data analysis using ArcGIS Pro software. Additional duties will include spatial analyses and generation of mapping products in support of other biological and ecological studies conducted by NERR staff (including oyster reef condition assessments and beach-dune dynamics); as well as assisting other NERR staff with additional routine ecological monitoring data collection, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in geography, geosciences, landscape ecology, or similar, or Bachelor’s degree in applicable field plus at least 2 years of directly relevant work experience, or equivalent. Must have demonstrated Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial analysis skills as applied to the analysis and interpretation of remote sensing data.

Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Uncrewed Aerial Systems (aka drones) and UAS-based data collection and image analysis. Familiarity with coastal habitats preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must have demonstrated Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial analysis skills as applied to the analysis and interpretation of remote sensing data. Familiarity with Uncrewed Aerial Systems (aka drones) and UAS-based data collection and image analysis highly desirable. Strong writing and communications skills. Familiarity with coastal habitats preferred.
