Job Description
Supports transportation mapping layers for GIS applications, analysis, and map production. Under the direction of the GIS Manager and in collaboration with other GIS analysts and road inventory specialists, creates, converts, and updates GIS transportation mapping layers using ArcGIS and FME software. Interprets source data for mapping updates including as-built records, posting advices from the road inventory group, aerial imagery, field collected data, and local agency data collection. Creates queries and utilizes automated routines to perform quality control checking of data to maintain correctness and spatial accuracy according to established procedures.
Completes support requests from SCDOT business units for data/layer creation or updates. On request, publishes data as cartographic products, web mapping layers or applications. Uploads transportation datasets to SCDOT mapping websites. Creates and updates tasks in the agency's tracking system (Jira). Establishes and maintains good working relationships with SCDOT business units through effective communication, exercising judgement on approaches, prioritization and scheduling of tasks, and consistent follow through on tasks.
Assists in the migration of the agency's GIS software to the esri Roads & Highways platform. This includes participation in training, troubleshooting software issues, development and maintenance of documented procedures, updates to automated QA/QC procedures, and revisions to data standards.
Assists in the creation and QA/QC of data for the agency's HPMS submittal. Works with the department manager to communicate needed changes and updates with the Road Data Services HPMS manager. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree in geography or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
