Responsibilities: Job Summary
This position provides support to the genetic counselors that consists of clinical case preparation, attaining family histories, facilitating genetic testing, processing of test results, and tracking testing results. Collaborates with other local and national cancer genetics programs and appropriate health care professionals to gain new insights, which enhance the services provided at the Cancer Genetic Risk Assessment and Cancer Prevention Program. Markets and promotes the Cancer Genetic Risk Assessment and Cancer Prevention Program.
  • Program Development and Implementation: Take on other projects as needed. Organizing resources and updating the information. Updating internal databases.
  • Patient Care: Compile family history and construct three-generation pedigrees. Collect personal medical history from patients and appropriate family members. Call out negative patient results and prepare result letters to patients.
  • Communication and Documentation: Escalate cases and triage to other departments when appropriate.
  • Marketing of the Cancer Genetic Risk Assessment and Cancer Prevention Program: Promote the program among physicians, nurses and other health care professionals and in the lay community by one-on-one visits and through educational seminars.
  • Planning and Coordination of Care: Ensure appropriate documents needed for consultations are collected prior to consultation. Interfacing with patients to confirm appointments.
