General Maintenance & Repair Person

POSITION GOAL: To perform semi-skilled work in preventive maintenance, and minor repairs such as air conditioning, plumbing, hardware, carpentry, grounds, etc., to various parts of the building and grounds. Also, install erect, assemble, repair, maintain, service, and remove materials involved with general maintenance projects, including the use of small power and hand tools.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The General Maintenance and Repair Person, shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below:

• Inspect electrical systems and connections. Replace lamps and tubes, ballasts, repair and/or replace receptacles, switches and plates, extension cords and lubricate motors. • Inspect mechanical equipment by ensuring proper operation of all mechanical equipment including air conditioning, boilers, sprinklers and lift stations.
• Review work orders and job sites to determine proper materials, tools, and procedures required to complete minor maintenance building and ground projects.
• Responsible for minor maintenance and repairs to buildings, equipment, and grounds.
• Monitor air conditioning, boilers, clean or replace filters, cooling tower and boiler water treatment. Lubricate system according to specifications. Also, inspect, tighten, and/or replace air handler belts, fans, etc. Inspect and add appropriate oil or grease to bearings on motors, shafts, gearboxes on air handlers, fans, etc. As well as, the use of chemicals and power equipment to clean air conditioning coils and air handling equipment.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches, written instructions locate maintenance issues, as well as service, inspect, and report maintenance needed for power trains electromechanically equipment to perform efficiently.
• Report to trades journeypersons, supervisor, or designee items that are beyond the scope of general maintenance and repair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE :

• Computer skills as required for the position.
• Must have a valid Florida driver’s license within 90 days of employment.
• Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program. • A minimum three (3) years of experience in maintenance and repair work in an industrial, institutional, and/or commercial environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• Vocational Certification or Broward County Certificate of Competency Specialty license.
• Bilingual skills.
