As an accredited public health department, we're seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Program Manager I (Community Health Worker Initiative COVID Response Program Manager) within the Division of Medical and Clinical Services- Chronic Disease Prevention Section.

This is a GRANT FUNDED position and subject to available grant funds.


Under broad supervision, the CHWI Program Manager I is responsible for management and implementation of the CHWI COVID Response and Resilient Communities Program. The program manager provides day-to-day administrative and programmatic oversight over a portion of the activities of the CDC Cooperative Agreement. The program manager also provides technical assistance and training to public health districts, health systems, community serving organizations. Evaluates programs for compliance with state and/or federal guidelines. This position reports directly to the Team Lead for the Community Health Worker Initiative (CHWI).


Job Responsibilities


  • Work collaboratively with other areas within public health to ensure community health workers have an opportunity to learn new skills.
  • Collaborate with other programs and sections within DPH, as well as other relevant government agencies as it relates to the state’s COVID response efforts and addressing underlying risk factors that may cause serious complications from COVID (i.e. diabetes, obesity, hypertension, smoking prevalence); ensure coordination of joint efforts to train Community Health Workers and positions that have similar job functions.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and distributes program reports, graphs, charts, and other data. Coordinates the collection, retrieval, and analysis of a variety of quality assurance data.
  • Establishes and carries out goals, plans, and objectives for the effective administration of the CHW Initiative. Ensures a strategic and evidence-based approach to supporting a training and certification program.
  • Provide subject matter expertise related to community partnerships and engagement as well as interventions that can be utilized by health systems, public health agencies and community groups to integrate community health workers into their organizational design.
  • Promote and manage strategic relationships to support the community health worker workforce and outreach to disadvantaged communities, specifically in rural Georgia.
  • Provides day-to-day management and administrative oversight of contracts and portions of the budget established to support community health worker activities.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with community stakeholders and organizations dedicated to working with disadvantaged populations at higher risk for impact of serious complications from COVID; facilitates coordination of community efforts with health systems and public health districts.
  • Contribute to written reports and assessments.
  • Active participant in the development and implementation of workplans related to the utilization of community health workers in public health endeavors.

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience managing professional level staff OR Six years of related professional experience AND Two years managing professional level staff. Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
