Job Summary:

Connecting with these values, the Global Student Services Admissions Counselor(GSSAC) under direction of the Coordinator of Global Student Services and in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management, is charged with increasing international student enrollment at Lansing Community College (LCC) through implementation of the campus internationalization plan. The GSSAC carries out all functions and processes relating to admissions of non-immigrant students to LCC. The specialist independently reviews admission applications, evidence of liquid funding, English language proficiency, personal essays, and immigration documents in support of admissions and Form I-20 requests for prospective, incoming, and currently enrolled students.

Global Student Services Admissions Counselor will cultivate relationships and partnerships with international high schools, businesses, and other market segments, for the purpose of recruiting prospective international students for admission to LCC. This position will represent the College at international college fairs and domestic community events relevant to international student recruitment and is responsible for establishing, coordinating, and implementing college recruitment and enrollment related programs designed to enhance a student-centered approach to service. Programs may include activities such as: international college fairs, open houses, orientation, and welcome events. The GSSAC will establish, maintain, and document communication with prospective international students and provide advising on LCC services, resources, and admissions processes. As LCC’s Designated School Official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (USDHS), the specialist is responsible for the issuing Form I-20s and other documents necessary to obtain the F-1 and M-1 student visa, which permits study in non-immigrant status in the United States. Ensuring that LCC stays compliant with federal regulations, the GSSAC stays current on regulations concerning F-1 and M-1 student visas to effectively and accurately advise students on changes or adjustments to immigration status, transfers, and benefit applications and eligibility.

The GSSAC is responsible for ensuring that international students receive persistent, proactive, and individualized mentoring and support throughout their enrollment at LCC, and consistently monitors student progress to ensure adherence to F-1 or M-1 visa regulations. Provides guidance on college and community resources in non-academic areas such as employment eligibility, student life, orientation, legal counseling, medical assistance, insurance, college counseling, personal counseling, housing, and social activities.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated experience working with diverse multicultural populations.

Must meet eligibility requirements set forth by Homeland Security to serve as the Designated School Official (DSO). A DSO must be either a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States.

Ability to travel both domestically and internationally; maintain a valid driver’s license.

Demonstrated experience working in higher education or with an international student population.


Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of one year experience working with F-1 and M-1 visa student admission.

Recruiting experience for an educational institution or demonstrated experience promoting or marketing programs or organizations.

Excellent oral, written, public speaking, and presentation skills.

The ability to speak multiple languages is strongly preferred.
